Let the text book purge commence! For some reason Iāve always had sentimental attachment to text books even though I never looked at them again. Probably because they cost so damn much š But now itās time for them to move on! https://www.instagram.com/p/CF2VXWTncl2/?igshid=jv5m5z3w51ah

Was sent this tweet, handle hidden to protect the fucked up, and omfg wtaf.
First of all, subjective feelings about the books aside, the books are objectively not perfect. Second, the TV show is a TV show, the books are books. If you directly translate the books into the TV medium, it would be a very shitty, never-ending show. Thirdly, Jamieās rape was too graphic and centered BJR and what he did over Jamie and how it affected him. Which youād think I was agreeing with this rando about, except then she says Claireās attack wonāt be as disturbing like thatās a fucking bad thing. WTAF.
Yes, bad things happen. Yes,stories need conflict. I know these things and Iāve railed against why the show should find other ways to create conflict than just violence against women and rape. Been there, ranted about that. What strikes me about this is the fact that this person is an example of someone who, by their own admission, *wants* to see violence and rape so graphic that they can barely watch.
Iām not kinkshaming anyone. If thatās something you want to role play in a healthy and consenting relationship, you do you. And yes, I know that TV shows arenāt real. But hereās the thing, the whole point of books and TV and pretty much any form of art is to suspend your disbelief and let yourself be immersed in the world being presented to you. And in that world, the graphic violence and rape isnāt fake.
If you were dating a guy who really loved watching super violent p0rn that didnāt stress at the outset that they were consenting participants and have safe words in place, thatād be a big fucking red flag. The same holds true for women who watch a TV show, any TV show, and want it to be so graphic itās physically uncomfortable to watch. I would never truly feel safe around a person like that. And there are many folks like that in this fandom. Itās lowkey fucking scary. And they seem to be the people the production is catering to. Which is also lowkey fucking scary.
These observations arenāt limited to just Outlander. They can be applied to pretty much any show or movie. And before folks @ me, Iām not saying that violence or rape shouldnāt exist in film or TV. Iām saying the the way in which those things are presented tells a lot about what the piece is trying to say and how they want the viewer to react. And if the reactions areĀ āyeah, make this as brutal as possible because thatās what I want to see,ā then maybe some artistic choices should be reconsidered. Because thatās fucked up.

You are no lady. All you do is swear
No Iām not. I am an educated, independent WOMAN.
I can swear like a drunken sailor, male or female. Women no longer have to be āladiesā. Itās an equal opportunity society that I live in.
I fucking love swearing. Itās the best.
Psht, anon. Itās not even possible to swear all the time. Other words are needed to give the swearing more impact.Ā
For instance,Ā āyou fucking cuntā just isnāt the same without you.Ā
HAPPY BIRTHDAY @sherrigamblin!
