Today is the third episode of House of the Dragon, so for fun I thought I’d do a post of the dragon names for all the dragons we’ve seen thus far in High Valyrian (both in the orthography and in the romanization). In the writing itself there are many ways to spell names, so the spellings you see here are just those that I decided on for this post; they’re not the only possible spellings for each dragon.
First is Arrax (Arraks) whose name is built off the glyph used in arrigon, which means “to show” or “to display”. Arrax’s (Arraks’) name doesn’t necessarily derive from this word, but it’s close enough that it can be spelled with that glyph. The last glyph is a special glyph for names that end in -x (-ks).
Next Balerion, the Black Dread. The bal- portion of the name comes from the glyph for soil balon. Next is the glyph for repetition commonly used in participles. This word isn’t necessarily a participle, but that glyph is used when there’s a -Vr extender in a name (cf. Daenerys, Jaehaerys, etc.). The last glyph is the glyph for iron āegion, which is used for the -ion ending. Both the glyphs for soil and iron imply darkness, chosen in part due to Balerion’s black scales.
Sheepstealer’s name you will have heard several times this season. The name is a direct translation, with the first glyph for bianor “sheep”, and the second two glyphs being laodio, an older word for “thief” (the more common word is laodikio). To form a compound, bianor reduces to its second stem, biādr-, which then assimilates to the following l, giving us biāllaodio.
Seasmoke’s (Embrōrbar’s) name is a standard compound. The first glyph is embar “sea” and the second ōrbar “smoke”. To combine the two, embar changes to its genitive embro, and then it merges with ōrbar. The name is literally “smoke of the sea”.
Silverwing’s (Gēliotīkun’s) name is also a direct translation of the common. Gēlio is the genitive of gēlion “silver”, and tīkun is the word for “wing”. The first two glyphs give us gēlio and the second two tīkun. It’s literally “wing of silver”.
Another Common Tongue name is Moondancer (Hūrlilio). This is less obvious in High Valyrian, as the root for moon hūra is used smashed onto the word for dancer lilio. The first glyph is the glyph of the moon; the second the glyph for dancing; and the last a glyph that gives us -io, Valyrian equivalent of -er.
The name of the great Caraxes (Karakses) derives from the Valyrian word for great kara. Following that initial glyph is the special x (ks) glyph seen in Arrax (Arraks). The last glyph is the dragon glyph which gives us the -es ending.
Meleys (Meles) is a much simpler name. The name derives from mele “red”, which uses the same glyph as the glyph for a rose. The last glyph is the dragon glyph which gives us -es.
Syrax (Sȳraks) is Rhaenyra’s yellow dragon, and its name derives from sȳz “good”. In its modified forms, the root of sȳz is sȳr-, and so when it combines with the -x (-ks) glyph it’s Sȳraks, not Sȳzaks.
The old god Vhagar (Vagar) lends its name to this dragon. As an old god, the name has many spellings, and its old pronunciation has been lost. This time I spelled it with the consonantal glyphs V, H, and G with the blood glyph giving us the -ar ending. Whatever the V and H were supposed to represent has been lost to time, but the H will stick around in the spelling as a vestige of the old god’s name.
The name Vermax (Vermaks) is a combination of the glyph used in vermagon “to warn” and the -x (-ks) terminal glyph.
Vermithor (Vermitor) is another old name which has many spellings. In this instance, I used the same glyph as with Vermax (Vermaks), added a consonantal T, and used the shadow glyph to give us the -or ending.
Finally we have the Common Tongue name Sunfyre (Vēsperzys). This is a simple compound, with the sun glyph vēzos being sandwiched onto the front of perzys “fire”, similar to the moon glyph in Moondancer (Hūrlilio). The z of vēzos assimilates to the following p of perzys, devoicing to s.
Obviously, there are more dragon names than this in A Song of Ice and Fire (and more that have been mentioned in House of the Dragon), but these are the ones we have pictures of (or skulls, at least). I have to say, GRRM doesn't disappoint when it comes to the quantity of dragons. If dragons are supposed to be a big thing in the series, there better be a lot of them, and there are, so hats off to him for that!

Well, Dorren dies a few days after the Red Wedding, so unfortunately he doesn’t get to see many people’s full arcs, aside from Edwyrd and Benjimin Dormaire, Robb, and Catelyn.
Which canon character annoys your OC?
I feel like Theon would get on his nerves a little bit, just by being Theon. Jaime would be another contender. Dorren has no time for arrogant knights like him during his captivity.
Which canon character does your OC respect a lot?
Definitely Ned Stark, but he doesn’t really interact with him in AtRF. As for characters he does interact with, probably someone like Robb or Rodrick Cassel, a fellow Master-at-Arms.

Wet, slick noises consume the space, soft breathy sighs following not longer after. The smell of sex fills the air. Janella whimpers and digs her fingers into Maekar's hair. He almost moans into her cunt, sending small vibrations through her.
Janella's not sure what's gotten into him, but she doesn't mind it in the slightest.
"Gods, Maekar." Janella's hips roll. Maekar growls his displeasure at the motion. He pushes her leg up higher and hooks them over his shoulders, trapping her thighs between his bicep and forearm. Maekar then pushing her hips down with his forearm, effectively pining her in place.
"Stay. Put." He pulls away enough for Janella to hear him before placing his mouth on her once more. Maekar licks every inch of her, his tongue going from her clit to entrance then gently sucking her folds into his mouth before dipping his tongue down as far as it'll go.
This isn't for Janella. This is for him.
Janella moans at the thought, head hitting the pillow with a soft 'thump'. Her chest heaves. She pulls on his hair, and the resulting sound alone makes her whimper. Maekar redoubles his efforts.
Gods, who would think she would have a husband this desperate for her. If he were a younger man, they would never leave his bed. As it is, they end up tangled up in one another at least 5 nights a week. How she has yet to end up with child, Janella isn't sure.
A broken moan escapes her. She cannot wait for the moment she bears his child, the thought no longer repulsive. Janella wants nothing more: an undisputable sign she is his, and he is hers. Her thighs tighten around his head.
The bed begins rocking. At first, Janella barely notices, too wrapped up in the way her heart beat thrums through her entire body. When she notices, she assumes it's from her, the movement of her hips too much.
Then Maekar presses down even harder on her abdomen. Janella's vision goes white at the edges for the briefest of moments. She gasps, head lifting. The new angle gives her a better view, and her mouth waters.
Maekar's head is between her thighs, hair mussed and eyes focused on her. His hold on her thighs means she sees the muscles of his shoulders and back flex. Most importantly, Janella sees the way he rocks his hips into the bed, grinding against the sheets.
Fuck, but seeing him so desperate unlocks part of her, the side she keeps repressed for fear of being unlady-like. Janella's mouth opens and words spill forth.
"Look at you, humping the bed. Merely from getting your mouth on me." Janella digs her fingers into his hair and pulls his head up.
Maekar stares at her, wide-eye and desperate. His violet eyes are slightly glazed over, unfocused. Her cum practically drips from his chin. His lips part, almost as if he might whine.
"Do I turn you on that much?" Janella murmurs. Despite how wrecked he looks, Maekar manages a huff.
"You don't even fucking know." His voice drops an octave. Maekar's gaze focuses on her, pure hunger in it. Janella's heart beats a little faster, a little louder.
"Then show me." Janella almost purrs. "Let me see how much you want me."
Maekar blinks, almost stunned, before letting out a low growl. Janella eases her hold on his hair.
He wastes no time, diving back into her cunt with palpable need. His mouth is both frantic yet controlled. Maekar knows her body, knows what places make her sing. He's memorized her as if she's a book he's read a thousand times over and will read a thousand times more, and he uses it to his advantage. While the desperation remains, he controls where he targets, no longer content to simply taste.
His focus now is no longer on him but her. He intends for her to come and come again, come until he's wrung as many orgasms as he can and then some, come until he's satisfied. Janella's eyes roll into the back of her head.
"Gonna breed you." Maekar mumbles against her. "Not going to let you leave this fucking chamber until it takes."
The words are more too himself, but Janella keens. She arches as much as she can, which isn't much given his strength. The realization only makes her wetter. This strong man, this warrior, this prince could easily snap her bones if he wishes is instead between her legs, humping the bed with sheer need. She nods eagerly.
"Fuck. Yes." She hisses. "Breed me. Make me a mother."
Maekar's eyes widen. He pauses for a fraction of a second before pulling off her. The wet 'pop' is obscene. He doesn't leave her long, merely long enough to fold her in half. He gets himself in hand quickly and sinks into her. Janella's soaking, and he slips fully inside of with ease. When he bottoms out, Maekar groans loudly, his head dropping.
"You're so wet." His voice comes out tight, a slight tinge of awe to it.
"It's all for you." Janella breathes.
Maekar's control fully snaps. He moves, setting a punishing rhythm, pulling out until only the tip remains before slamming into her. Janella's tits bounce from the force. The slap of skin on skin overtakes the room.
"Mine." Maekar manages. "My fucking woman. My wife."
"Yours." Janella nods as she agrees. She reaches out for him in an attempt to ground herself. "I'm yours, and, oh, you're mine."
She swears she sees Maekar's eyes roll into the back of his head. Certainly, his rhythm stutters. Janella takes the opening.
"Mine." She pushes up as much as she can. Maekar meets her for a sloppy kiss. "My husband. My dragon."
Maekar swears loudly. He nearly slams into her with how hard he thrusts.
"Yours." He manages. Maekar presses one hand on her lower stomach. He strokes the skin with his thumb. "Ours."
It takes a moment for Janella to realize what he means, realize his hand is right over her womb. She lets out a noise somewhere between a moan and a sob.
Their child. He means their child, the life they'll create, that she'll cradle and he'll protect. She will bear their children.
Theirs.
"Ours." Janella whines. Maekar presses down some, and Janella sobs. Tears prickle at the corner of her eyes. "Gods, fucking... ours."
Her orgasm hits hard, all muscles in her body trembling. It doesn't drag her under so much as bury her, slamming into her like an avalanche. Janella cries out. She desperately claws at Maekar and digs her nails into his back.
Maekar's hips stutter. An emptiness suddenly hits her, but Maekar's quick to slide back into her, right at the tail end of her orgasm. The sensation tips her over again, a smaller yet still intense cliff.
"Came so fucking hard you pushed me out." Maekar grumbles. Under it is an unmistakable note of pride. Janella nods. Her words escape her at the moment.
It isn't long before Maekar follows her. He buries his head into the crown of hers as he does, pushing her legs so far back Janella's ankles touch her ears. He barely manages to keep himself up long enough on trembling elbows to roll and collapses to the side.
They lay there for a moment, chests heaving.
"Mine." Janella reaches out for his hands. "Yours."
Maekar swallows. Hard. "Yours." His voice comes out gruff, even as he takes her hand. "Mine."
