   lara jean takes a breath, tucking hair behind her ears before breaking the silence. “ it’s actually really nice having someone to talk to about this stuff. “

 “ i just wanna finish this chapter—– ” the girl’s back rests against her mattress, legs crossed lazily against her blue bedroom wall. toes will wiggle in her pink socks as she flips to the next page, clearly invested in yet another romance novel. 

   “ oh, hi —– ” the visit takes lara jean by surprise. more importantly, she is almost covered in flour. perhaps she should provide an explanation. “ — i’m baking cupcakes for kitty’s bake sale.” which isn’t totally lame, right? god, she should’ve baked brownies.

    “ yeah, uh, well —– ” she’ll take a moment to breathe before biting down on her bottom lip. hands gripping the steering wheel even tighter. “ —– i’m just not completely comfortable using my mirrors yet so.”
