This evening the curtain will fall for the last time on the self-dubbed “Greatest Show on Earth,” America’s biggest and longest-running traveling circus. After 146 years, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will pump its caravan brakes permanently.

In March 1955, photographer Ed Feingersh followed Marilyn around New York City for a week - Marilyn getting ready to attend a benefit performance of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus at Madison Square Garden.

Following a famed 145-year run, the elephants have bid their final adieu to the big top.
