Muppet Fact #1843
To create the celebrity version of "Put Down the Duckie," every celebrity guest star from season 18 of Sesame Street was asked to sing a verse from the song and it was later edited together. A second celebrity version of the song appeared in season 24 with some new guests.

There's been this baffling uptick in people arguing that if you're part of an oppressed demographic group, and you have done something terrible (especially if that thing is something that your specific demographic has been stereotyped for doing) then you cannot and should not be held accountable for doing that thing specifically because you are an oppressed marginalized person & that group is overrepresented in criticism or legal action for doing said thing. Some take it a step further and try to say that the thing being done "isn't bad".
Like the solution to how oppressed groups will face worse judgment & action for allegations of certain things (whether they did it or not) is not to decide that what they did was fine and everyone should be okay with it. Its not prejudice for being upset and calling out when a marginalized person does something reprehensible and is a shitty person who harms others, its only prejudiced if one ONLY cares if its a marginalized person doing those things
please wear sunscreen!!! I've seen "fuck the beauty industrial complex" posts about complicated skincare regimens and am 100% with them except sometimes they mention sunscreen and no. no. absolutely not. sunscreen is a wonderful supportive friend who wants to keep you safe, and you should let her do it. throw out all your other cosmetics and skincare products if you want, but keep your sunscreen. and if you're not wearing sunscreen, start wearing it!!!! this is not about terror of aging, this is not about every tiny imperfection our fucked-up culture has made you feel insecure about, this is about protecting yourself from skin cancer. wear the damn sunscreen.
my mother had to basically have her upper lip removed and reconstructed during her surgery to get rid of skin cancer. it looks great now, but it was a traumatic process that left her insecure because her lip doesn't look the way she was used to it looking for 71 years
for HER mother, it was a large section of her nose (again, reconstructed, but still)
wear. the. damn. sunscreen.
kitten if you don't get daddy his 3D printed sensory slug in the next five seconds you can kiss your grandma's drywall goodbye
This was supposed to be unrebloggable, but I was flying into a gamer rage at the antique store because someone was wearing too much Victoria's Secret Love Spell body spray and it gave me a migraine.
like did you know that trees lower the surface temperature by up to 19° and grass by up to 24°... access to green space is access to safety in a climate crisis and it is a massive site of inequality because poorer areas tend to have less green space and thus get hotter. urban trees are an equality issue as well as a climate issue. sorry it's not a magic bullet that solves everything but sometimes you need to pick an issue that helps a bit and focus on that. this might not be yours. it's likely going to be mine in the future when my health issues allow me to take it on. if we each pick a thing we can make a difference
Literary criticism terms I use on this blog despite making them up myself, much to the chagrin of anyone who does not have my back catalog memorized:
are we the baddies: SFF subgenre focused on agents of an imperial power realizing that and grappling with what to do next, in contrast to stories focusing on the scrappy rebels resisting said imperial power
I could fix him (the empire): SFF subgenre where the colonized subject being nice and/or sexy enough Ends Colonialism, frequently tied to the John President of Racism problem
librarian bait: books centered on the transformative life-changing power of books and libraries, cousin to books focused on the transformative life-changing power of storytelling and narrative in general
college brochure fiction: stories where the protagonist has an artfully arranged group of diverse friends who are as flat as paper and whose cultural backgrounds never come up meaningfully
the Dave Strider: character the fandom fixates on to the detriment of everything else, until the weight of that attention warps fanon and sometimes even canon around them. almost always male. it's happening to Gurathin from Murderbot right now
#OP tell us more about the John President of Racism problem!
It hails from an immortal tumblr post by penultimate-step, except not immortal apparently because I get 'not found' when I try to go back to the original. So here's the text:
It's always disappointing when a series makes a big deal about societal and structural problems in it's setting, making readers think it has interesting things to say about the subject, only to then resolve the problems by fighting The CEO of Racism, John Racist, so that all of society's problems would then get better because they promoted a new CEO.

A core feature of anti-fatness is the "you did this to yourself"-view. People are very invested in the idea that size is within everyone's control. It's soothing to believe that all fat people are a small series of good choices away from becoming thin and staying that way, and that thin people are success stories by virtue of existing.
Any time we speak up about discrimination and fatphobia, someone inevitably plays that card. Trolls will say "eat a salad, pig" and well-meaning health nuts will gently explain what calories are. In either case, we're met with a "you know, you can stop this at any time." Why, if nobody was fat, thin people wouldn't need to examine their biases! It sure would be an easier time for everyone if we weren't so Around and Bulliable!
my favorite part of the fifth element is when leeloo types "war" into the search bar and she doomscrolls so hard she loses her will to live and almost doesn't save the world. much to learn from this
Outdoor in sun perfec t place for president to do speech! Outdoor very warm very soft put old man on green lawn under sun. Put old man in warm sun. no problem ever in warm sun because good view and audience can see long speech. Nice podium outdoor sunny perfect place for old president can trust warm sun to give nice view to President good luck to President. friend sun.

Tumblr is so exhausting because I'll log on and see posts from a woman whose demographic is literally not allowed into womens' bathrooms because laws were passed on the basis of "If somebody with a penis is allowed into a 'Women's Space' he will rape literally all of them",
and then that woman will be posting about how "Androphobia isnt real"
Like yeah. The fear of men, people perceived as men, and penises can be both transmisogyny (as they are exacerbated when you are trying to step away from the role of "man") and misandry/anti-masculinity. This happens to trans men & masc non-binary people too. Trans men (especially hypermasculine, black, and/or passing) are seen as dangerous, predatory intruders on women's spaces. Even if those "women's spaces" aren't actually women-exclusive (e.g. gynecologists, sexual assault support groups, military spouses clubs, parenting classes/support groups, etc).
(Note: I stay away from the term "androphobia" due to it being a term for a medically-recognized phobia. Same with gynephobia)
Accountability in the Trans Community Part 3
Followup to my previous two posts, part 1 and part 2.
This post will be giving a real world example of this rhetoric in action. Trigger warning for ssxual assault, abuse apologism, images of physical injuries.
A cis woman on Twitter has made accusations of sexual abuse against a trans woman.
I will disclaim up top that I do not know if the accusations are legitimate. I do not know if abuse occured.
What I'm addressing here is not the validity of the accusations, but rather other responses to it, that mirror the rhetoric in my previous two posts on this subject.
First image: Accusations from Will / wylbite against bunilla / snuffedbunny.
Will is accused of being a TERF due to her making accusations against Bunnila. Her injuries are downplayed and dismissed as too minor to be evidence of the accusations.
Claiming that there is no purpose for a victim to speak up about being raped / who their rapist was. And sure, I'll grant that any individual seeing this doesn't have much they can do about it if they don't know the perpetrator - but this is clearly being used as a way to silence victims. Evidenced by the fact that they frame the victim as only trying to ensure that the perpetrator is socially isolated.
The concept of trying to warn others, or simply that the victim has a inherent right to speak up about their abuse, is completely dismissed.
"The only morally correct thing to do as a victim is to uproot your life and remove yourself as far away as possible, and only privately warn others. If you ever speak about it publicly you're trying to socially murder someone."
Here is some commenting on the situation, likening it to the fact that she was on a real jury for a case of sexual assault against a minor!! She calls the child in this case a "brat" and "lying through her teeth".
Just in case you need a reminder that, yeah, these folks are real people who can participate on real world trials!! And will being their beliefs to the courtroom!! And treat real actual children as lying brats!!
"The moral thing to do is to side with the accused regardless of whether she's guilty of anything".
And there it is! You are morally obligated to side with the accused no matter what!! Even if they are a rapist!! Even if they're done the most heinous thing imaginable!!
None of this hypothetical!! This is the real world with real human consequences!! The people who tout this rhetoric want real human victims to be silent and want real human abusers to be protected at all costs!!
Reblogging this because shortly after I posted this, Will's blog was reported until it was permanently suspended. This now remains one of the only archives of Will's allegations, while snuffedbunny's account is still active and posting.
I was given permission to post the screenshots of the injury photos and I will be keeping them up. Again, I don't know if these allegations are accurate, and we cannot know now because Will was silenced. But I believe they still deserve to be heard, especially because so many people thought otherwise and took every effort to silence her.

Tara on Consent, SA, and the Allegations
I've been sent some information, and given that the allegations against Tara are very serious, I would like to start with a pattern of behavior rather than the accusations themselves.
Consent
"Against CC, Against Free Love: Toward a Dangerous Freedom" is an essay written by Tara and posted here. I'm only going to show an excerpt, but please read it for full context.
The legitimacy of Tara's claims here rest entirely on her use of hyperbole to make consent out to be something no one expects of it. Literal "documentation", "checklists", etc. are ridiculous claims on their face, which I'm sure is obvious to Tara as well. The purpose served by the exaggeration is making "consent culture" appear ridiculous, cumbersome, inhibiting to "intimacy", and therefor reasonably optional.
The highlighted claim is essentially "consent offers safety but removes passion" for those who don't speak faux intellectual. I don't have any interest in kinkshaming people, this is not framed as a statement on kink, it's framed as broadly applying to "intimacy" as a whole- so just all forms of sex. Decrying the practice of consent as a whole is pretty alarming.
The claim could be made that this statement is about kink, and forms of consensual non-consent. Even if this was the case (kink is not mentioned once in the entire essay) then it's also at best a complete misrepresentation, and at worse willfully removing the things that make cnc ultimately consensual. Cnc still requires consent via prior agreement (no, not necessarily signed, Tara) and safewords. Without these it is rape. Tara's statement on consent makes no room for such things. It makes no room for consent as a whole. What kind of person would advocate against consent?
The ways that people on this site go to bat for legitimate predators is insane to me.
I hate the notion that "if you ever make a document on someone you are evil"
It's always come across as a way to shut abuse victims up. I think making a doc on someone for making furry porn on the internet is stupid, and that documents and public call outs should bring serious things like abuse to light. That being said if I'm in any proximity to a predator I want to know.
It's
If you make a document you are evil, but if you dont your claims are baseless.
It's a way to look at abuse victims and shut them down.
I think everyone on this fuckass site defending rapists and abusers owes every abused person here 5$.
