I think it might be a good start to show off the Spaceships I drew for Spaceshiptember so far.

An Artfight attack of Kaidouken's Alistair!
Random walky robot.
It's kinda fascinating seeing posts about what people think about different social media services. Everyone's really out there making up rules and mythos for how things work. Fables and rituals to invoke the algorithm's favor. Different communities growing in places and then defining those places.
And then some programming or staff change comes along and breaks it all.
Magical.
Another color study I did recently!
This is based on a frame of the music video for the song Melos by WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA, one of my favorite bands of recent times (before the current singer, who is fine, but lacks that certain "magical" feeling).
The song and video are beautiful. Performed by a Japanese band, the video shot in Mongolia, and based on the short story 走れメロス (Run, Melos!), which itself is based on the German ballad Die Bürgschaft by Friedrich Schiller, as a German, this is a fun chain of media!
I highly recommend listening WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA. My personal favorites are Melos, Nishi Tamao and The Little Match Girl

Some more color studies I did a while ago as well as black and white sketches
Hey there!
Haven't really been active for a while here, but since the bird site is crashing and burning it might be nice to just post a few things again!
I am also on the old elephant site! https://mas.to/@sibaku
To start things off, here are a few color studies from reference I did a while ago. Trying to get back into regular drawing and it kinda works at the moment!
I was always bad at colors and painting. So for these I tried to draw without any construction and stuff and just throw colors on the screen and try to match the reference. I even like the results!

Free interactive computer graphics fundamentals course - WIP
Haven't been active here for a while, just lurking around.
With twitter dying, i thought I might take up some other platforms again!
I will start here with sharing what I am currently working on: An interactive course you can just do in your browser, that teaches you how a compter displays 3D graphics on the screen.
If you want to try out the current WIP state: https://sibaku.github.io/rasterizer_wip
The course starts with just putting pixels on an image and ends with textured 3D images supporting transparency.
All final code for all stages is there and you can run the results, but only about half of it has the theory explanations and DIY code, working on it!
Here are the stages that I have finished writing (in a first draft) so far:
Drawing pixels:
Drawing lines:
Clipping lines at the screen boundary:
Drawing triangles:
Clipping triangles and lines at arbitrary lines:
I think the hardest part to write is done, so I hope to finish this soon.
Will probably write updates here on tumblr.

Very simple browser game to pet animals
A week or so ago I saw a tweet with a custom old-school shooter rendering engine and a link to a tutorial (https://lodev.org/cgtutor/raycasting.html). I thought it was a fun and neat exercise so I sat down and made the very basics (see boxes) in JavaScript.
Wanted to leave it at that, but had fun and also a simple and stupid idea: Run around a map and collect joy by petting cute animals.
So I continued for a few evenings and hacked together this extremely simple game. Didn’t follow the tutorial much after the boxes, since I made a slightly different camera model and wanted my sprites to be moveable in the up/down direction...
The link again just in case: https://sibaku.github.io/pet_simulator/
Have some screenshots:
Small friends!
Also winged friends!
And grumpy friends.
A classic survival horror experience with a unique aesthetic, full of melancholic mystery. Investigate a dark secret, solve puzzles, fight off nightmarish creatures and navigate dystopian, surreal retrotech worlds. Wishlist #SIGNALIS on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1262350/SIGNALIS/
(Image shows a GPU pathtraced tinted glass bunny with some non-reflective patches and some other objects with different materials being illuminated by a box light source)
About two weeks ago I scrapped together some old GPU pathtracing code for a small demo for some school students. It was able to do basic diffuse lighting and perfect reflection and reflection of spheres and boxes.
I like pathtracing, so I spent a few evenings putting some more stuff into it, like bounding volume hierarchies, some more BSDFs, direct light sampling, different importance sampling techniques and texture support for diffuse and specular components. Everything is a bit hacky and not super optimized in shader code, but it runs interactively (though depending on the scene, this is like 1 FPS). Nethertheless, it works and looks decent enough and I had a bit of fun coding.
(Sponza model with area light source, a mirror and a glossy sphere)
(Sponza model with area light source, a mirror and a glossy sphere, this time with higher roughness, making the reflection look more diffuse)
(different translucent objects. The refracted light is focused nicely on the other side of the objects)
(slightly older version with some different parameters)
We will be attending #gamescom2019 and still have a bit of time in our schedule there - if you’re press or a publisher interested in #SIGNALIS, our retrotech anime survival horror, please get in touch via email or Twitter!
