Week 4 - Glitch in Photography

I used PS to splice all the contents that I wanted to show in one photo. The film was a picture I took of myself and I didn't have a clear face because it was a silhouette, so I decided to be brave and put my face on one of the most beautiful women in art history （Het meisje met de parel), replace the sky with van Gogh's, with his sunflowers in the corner.

DADA is a form of art, it does not require anyone's recognition and approval but only a form of expression of the author. It originated in the 20th-century art movement as a satire on war and politics. It was wildly touted and loved until now. You can paste any idea you want to express or show on a canvas, it can be anything from an unrelated object to an eye to a slogan to all kinds of weird things. Dadaism is very interesting.

Photo Prompt - Visualizing Identity - "ME"

For the 2 photo prompt this week, I wanted to use this photo represent myself. The beautiful scenery that i can touch is in stark contrast to the dilapidated walls around me. I changed the color of the whole picture, make the color contrast more vivid.

A photograph is limited in that it can only capture what is happening in the moment. It can't tell you what happened in the last second or what happened in the next. If a photographer takes a picture of two people fighting. We can imagine story after story. But what is the truth? No one can know from that one-second photo, so the photographer can create a lie and tell it through the photo. Photograph can lie, because it's a vehicle for lies.

The Internet is developing so fast that people share everything they see online. There must be a difference between seeing a physical object and looking at an image on a screen. Just like the artworks in the museum, even though people can search all the information and images of the artworks on the Internet, they are still keen to go to the museum to see and feel.

My name is Shuo Chai, an international student from China currently studying at UTD majoring in ATEC.I am patinated about art but I haven’t deiced which topic should I into. So I have decided to give myself a chance to learn “everything”. This semester I am taking photography, drawing, animation, digital audio …different kind of art classes.
