I think after this weekend I am intrigued to go and do more light photography and experiment with long exposures. I am thinking to book out one of the studios for a few hours and do light photography with coloured glow sticks and torches and light sources, and with these light sources I can do light drawings like tracing out people so i get the human body outline. I was also thinking to ask the dance department if one of the dancers would like to be apart of the photo shoot as I was thinking to get a dancer to hold a light and dance around so i can get swift and dance movements by light a bit like what Eric Pare.

As a task of our project we had to intepretate Duane Michal’s narrative sequence ‘Things Are Queer’ in groups. We came up with this concept were we could as a whole different world through these pictures and trying to add in the different time periods of today and the time Michals produced the images. Our first step was to plan our our narrative and we drew it up and we found that the narrative was more complexed than we though it would be. Our narrative was al based around this drawing that connected all our pictures together. When we had an idea we drew up a story board of 9 pictures and we thought about the props and places that will be used. When we came up with the concept we didn’t initionally decide on what the drawing would be but we eventually came up with you using a drawing of a angle. Once we finished planning we started to photographing our images for the narrative. We took many pictures so that we could achieve the pictures that we all approve of. Then we started to put it together. We used photoshop to put all the images together. Then changed it from colour to black and white. And the sequence was done.

Michael Kay is a famous food photographer based in the UK, he also does portrait photography. I like this image because it simple to do but yet it looks perfect. The lighting here is high key and I think that I there are two lights from the right and left shining on the pile of fruit. I think this image is quite easy to recreate, as the lighting seems like there is a bright soft box on the right and behind the fruit on the left hand side. It looks like this was done on an infinity table, this is where it looks likes there is not edges and the white goes on forever. I like the angle that this picture is composed at because you can see the dimension of the food so that it can look like pile. To me I like this image due to the white infinity table as it balances out the colours.

Béatrice Peltre is a French freelance food writer, stylist and photographer. Her work is found in many magazines and newspapers. I like this picture because of the composition and angles. The picture is composed so that you can see the contents of the lemon verrines through the glass cup and yet still see most of the top. I like the colours being used in the picture I like that there is a nice coloured spoon and a patterned table cloth. At times these kinds of things can distract the viewer but I think it works in this picture because of the shallow depth of field of about f/4.8 makes your eye go straight to the main focused part of the slight burnt cream on the top and not to the nice colour at the bottom of the image, this makes me thing that the photographer might have used a macro lens. I also think that it isn’t distracting because of the angle of the picture, you can see the cloth and spoon from the front and not that back. I think that the lighting in this picture was natural lighting but I think that if I were to recreate this I would use a soft box in the studio and place it behind the lemon verrines because if you look at the picture its really burned out behind the dessert.

Sarka Babicka is a food, lifestyle and travel photographer. I like his work because of the culture and simplicity he bring through in his images. I like this picture because it’s different to most common food photography as it has low-key lighting and has a different concept to most pictures. The lighting to the picture is quite homely and country. I like the separation that is done by the spoons. The angle of this picture was from a bird’s eyes view shows all the spoons and the all the variety of what seeds and dried foods are there and the different variation of colour on each spoon. I like that the entire picture is focused and not just one spoon, its very different to most things that you see in common food photography, as this is to make the food appealing but it is to make the statement of that the simple food is the best and healthy food.

Keiko Oikawa is a Japanese photographer and a food stylist. She has done many works with for advertisement and editorial work such as Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s magazine. One of the many reasons why I like this picture is because of the composition is show the side of the cakes so you can see what the cake consists and I like the way the table is added in it makes the look homely so it looks home baked and that the cakes are positions over to the right where it cuts a bit off of the cake in the background. I like the use of the Rule of Thirds in this picture. This was originally taken for a cookbook for Mary Berry via BBC Books. I like that that there is more than one cake but is focused on only one. I also like the colours being used in this as the whites and the pale blue in the foreground and background, as it doesn’t distract the viewer’s eyes from the colour of the cake. I think that this must have been taken on a macro lens with the shallow depth of field it has I might have the f-stop of probably f/5.6.

Marcus Nilsson went to New York to become a chef but through this he got into food photography. Nilsson is a contemporary food photographer. I chose this image because it’s very simple but yet it has colour to it. I like that this has a bird’s eye view as it gives you the angle to see the different spices that is there. I think that high key lighting complements the colours in the image as the light and the white background makes the colours more vibrant and stand out more. I like that there isn’t just one part in focus and that the whole image is in focused as most food photography images use shallow depth of fields. The lighting in this picture isn’t that bright but isn’t that low so I thing that maybe they have used a soft box for the lighting set up.

 Milton was a fashion and celebrity photographer, his work was mainly of Marilyn Monroe. I like this image because of the way her hat and clothing just fade into the background. I think this was taken on a slow shutter speed maybe around 1/250.
