Partners, friends, family, no matter the name, it was clear that Shane and Rick were a packaged deal. Opposite sides of the same coin but with their attachment going as deep as the heart, the soul, when it came to the other man choosing Daryl over he, the second ex-deputy couldn’t keep from feeling pushed out. Neglected - Daryl was always the first choice in recent times - ignored in favor of the newest toy. Dixon was a great shot to have. A bit scrappy in execution but a noble companion, extreme in loyalty, but he wasn’t Shane. A cornerstone in the very lives of Rick and his kin; a soldier who would take a bullet unquestioned for the best friend that he loved. 

Shane would do anything for Rick. But jealousy would do anything to destroy them. 

“No, man, I’m fine. Go off and do whatever the hell you want to.” He mumbled, pretending to be working on cleaning his shotgun, eyes focused and attention paid to anywhere else but Rick. A lone lawn chair the place of his seating, Shane’s face was an emotionless picture, like stone, cold. 

“You want Daryl to go along with you? You go right ahead, Rick. You want him as your wingman? Be my guest. Don’t bother me none. You two go have fun pickin’ daisies.”

So maybe he was choosing Daryl a bit more, maybe it was to create jelousy maybe he loved both Daryl and Shane but also the frustration of the lie that he had chosen someone else without telling him, thinking he of all people wouldn't understand?That was the worst part.

“You're being a big old baby, when I'm the one that's disappointed in you. You chose this Shane, you could have been honorable about who I am and said that you loved Lori too, I would have understood it. I'm polyamarous for fuck's sake.” He sighed, moving towards Shane and trying to calm him, rubbing his shoulders.
