Disney has trademarked the names of a bunch of Norse gods.
This is not okay.
These gods do not belong to Disney. They do not belong to Marvel. They belong to themselves and themselves alone, along with all those who worship them as the deities they are.
Thor, Loki, Odin, etc., these gods were not thought up by anyone at Disney or Marvel.
Stan Lee knew how sacred these gods are to those who follow many different Pagan traditions, how sacred they are to Scandinavian cultures to whom they are so important.
My best friend follows the Norse gods. She will be so bloody offended when she finds out about this. These are her gods, this is her religion. These are the deities she worships, the gods she prays to, the traditions she follows. She enjoys the Marvel portrayals of these characters, but they are separate from the gods she believes in.
Disney is stepping on her religion in an effort to gain more and more money.
Stan Lee did not trademark these names. He understood their importance and their sacred meaning. He was respectful enough not to do this.
These names are not the intellectual property of anyone. Neither the original names in runes nor the anglicised names that are used in Marvel's works.
They were around well before us (a whole ass millennium before us), and they will be around well after the greedy bastards who have decided to trademark religious symbols are dust.
It should be common sense and common courtesy not to trademark the names of religious figures, which all of these gods and goddesses are, even if you do not believe in them.
mod is not christian but you would never see me trademark jesus ffs it crosses a Line
If you agree, please sign and share the petition. If you can, please chip in to get this petition everywhere it can possibly go.
It is f**king disgusting that Disney is doing this.
It needs to stop.
Stop Disney Trademarking The Names of Norse Gods
Oh, and one more thing.
FUCK DISNEY.
i want to throw up ive included a bunch of tags trying to get the norse pagans attention bc im sure they'll want in on this if u have an in with the norse paganism community on tumblr pls do tag everyone u can
im wondering now if they've done this to the greek gods too ughh that would show even more of a disregard for other people's religious views and past people's religious views ughhhh ok imma go look at the toilet bowl for a bit 😅pls sign it'd mean the world to me
@thepastelpriestess prooobably something to boost in the Hellenist community as well...
I feel like there must be a legal way to challenge these trademarks. Like....
.....holy shit.
Okay, I don’t know if this will help you guys any. But like THREE YEARS AGO I wrote a piece on this site about Odin (OG Odin, not Disney Odin) that also mentions Loki by name.
AMERICAN COPYRIGHT LAW MEANS ALL RIGHTS TO THAT STORY ARE RESERVED TO ME. I NEVER ACTUALLY GOT AROUND TO RELEASING IT UNDER A CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE.
I’m pretty sure these can be challenged and overturned simply on the basis that this is a religion and also area of academic study, but let it be known I can and will slam this right on a lawyer’s desk if it’s needed as part of a body of proof.
I’d be willing to bet we could find folks on the AO3 who’ve written about Not!Disney Norse gods, as well.
GET THE OTW INVOLVED. DRAG MICKEY’S ASS.
I haven't heard that anyone has successfully challenged the handbag company that's been making life difficult for devotional artists and purveyors of Percy Jackson fan merch on account of the handbag company trademarked "Hermés".
It should be an obvious slam dunk. The Theogony and the Eddas are way older than these corporations. But the corporations have lawyer money.
Is that petition addressed to Disney? Why is that petition addressed to Disney? Petition the US Patent and Trademark Office. Or your country's equivalent. Write your representatives. Those are the people who have the power to tell Disney to knock it off and, importantly, who might be persuaded to care.
(American Gods - Neil Gaiman is definitely an AO3 fandom. So is Norse Religion & Lore. You will observe @neil-gaiman was never disrespectful enough to pull this shit.)
Let’s get it via AO3, then.
if you keep swallowing the anger back, it’s going to choke you

black lives matter and pride are intrinsically linked. the black trans community have done so much for us, we owe it to them to not forget their movement this month. without black lives, there would be no pride. black lives matter, today and always
Because of the different atmosphere, music made on Mars will sound completely different than on Earth and probably create an entirely new genre.

*rolls my third eye*
Listen. You ARE nature. You’re an entire ecosystem. Your flesh sculpted from the dirt. Your blood brewed from rain water. Thousands of creatures living inside of you, on your skin, who wouldn’t be alive without you just like you wouldn’t be either without them. You are born from the forest and the sea. Be kind to yourself.
Voting for Beginners!
Whether you’re preparing or just turned 18, a new US citizen, or just unfamiliar with these election things, here we go (complete with links):
Kinds of Elections
General Election: elections to fill public offices
Primary Election: prior to general, voters select which candidates will run for each party against each other
Open Primary: an election where voters can vote on Election Day, voters can only vote for candidates under one party affiliation. There are also “blanket” open primaries where voters can vote for any candidate of any party.
Close Primary: Only registered members of a particular party can vote for that party’s members
Runoff Primary: determined when no candidate receives a majority
Presidential Primary: the election where delegates are chosen to represent each party in the presidential election
Federal Elections
Presidential Elections (Executive Branch): every 4 years, elections are normally held in November and the electoral college cast their votes in December, inauguration happens on January 20th.
US House of Representatives (Legislative Branch): Has 435 members who are elected for two year terms, elections are held during early November. Each state has a certain amount of Congressman
US Senate (Legislative Branch): The US Senate has 100 members, each state has 2 Senators and they have 6 year term limits, one third are up for election every two years (could we be more confused?)
US Supreme Court (Judicial Branch): Supreme Court judges are nominated by the president and go to the Senate Judiciary Committee, who can vote to send the nominee to Congress. Confirmation by the Senate is needed to formally appoint a Supreme Court judge. Supreme Court judges serve a life long sentence. We do not vote as citizens within Supreme Court elections, but we do vote in the Congressional and presidential elections.
Midterm Elections
Midterm Elections occur during the middle of a president’s 4 year term, so every 2 years an election is happening on the federal level (Presidential or Congressional). During Midterm elections, every state will have US HOR Congressmen up for re-election, some will also have US Senators, and state’s will most likely also have state/local specific elections as well on your ballot since it is an even numbered year. The Midterm election is considered even more important than the presidential election since these are the people making, blocking, and changing legislature.
State Elections
State and local elections affect your daily life. Like on the federal level, state governments also have 3 branches of government:
Governor (Executive Branch): Governors have a 4 year term limit, along with the governor you have lieutenant governor, secretary of state, treasurer, commissioner of agriculture, superintendent of education, and more. Each state is unique in what offices they have.
Upper Houses and Lower Houses (Legislative Branch): This is your states Congress, the Senate and House of Representatives. Depending on the state, some senators have 4 year terms and some have 2 years, so every even numbered year a state senator will be up for election. State legislators tend to have longer terms, ranging from 8 to 12 years.
Court of Appeals/Local courts (Judicial Branch): This is your state’s judicial branch that determine law by each state’s constitution and settle court cases. Terms vary from state to state
Municipal/Local Elections
When it comes to your city, it is best to check annually about what offices and seats are up for re-election, who is running, and when to vote. These elections are important because they determine where your taxes go, rent costs, public safety, and so on. Your local paper and news station will undoubtedly have your city’s political information and election dates, as well as local party meetings, rallies, town hall meetings, and debates.
Examples of city elections:
Mayoral elections
City Council
District Attorney
Local Judges
School Board Elections

People who are irrationally buying tons of toilet paper are causing rational people to go out and buy toilet paper in fear of not being able to when they legitimately need it, which just furthers the issue of there not being enough supply.
