so i went to grab some timmies at work this morning and tripped over a film set. Nothing like existing in the hottest day of 2026 and watching film extras forced to wear parkas to walk amid fake snow drifts and pretend it's December in June.

(I gather it was for a show called Off Campus; raise your hand if you've heard of it)

anyway, poll time:

how often does your workplace/school double as a film set?

i work in the tv/film industry so it's all day, every day

quite often; i live in BC/PNW so it's x-files/supernatural all the way down

quite often; LA/SoCal is a giant film set and I'm just part of it

quite often; geographically not BC or LA/California

not often, but it has happened in the past

not specifically my workplace/school, but close enough that I decided it counts

I have never seen my workplace/school as the backdrop of a TV show or film

this poll is geographically weighted in favour of the Pacific coast (vanilla)

#i work in the food science industry and one thing that's nice is we have a full kitchen in every building instead of just a microwave #but it sucked working in HQ because the kitchen would p often be shut down for a photo op #like. my lunch and snacks are in there #now i'm across from HQ so it's almost never a problem #except the snacks last longer there so rarely i'll walk over to get snacks that my building is out of and have to wait an hour #for them to finish filming in the HQ kitchen

watching taskmaster NZ after UK makes it seem like the assistants get some training on how to be a no-fun fuddy-duddy in the style of the Taskmaster Assistant Character that Alex Horne plays on the UK version becuase Paul Wiliams is clearly working hard to be a slackjawed POS to such an extreme degree because he has to counteract his cute youthful boyishness. Like some of the boringness is an attempt to downplay his youthfulness, and then there's more boringness on top to try to reach the level set by Alex Horne

so it's always a little bit of a surprise when Tom Cashman on the AU version does not seem to be playing a character at all. But I know australians can be boring! Dr Chase on House was so boring that I thought he was british for most of the first season. Cashman is v cute so I don't mind, and his personality definitely shrinks when next to his Taskmasater but it's just odd. Maybe I know too much about scripted TV but is there no character bible? One thing that's fun about the UK and NZ versions is when the assistants break character and the contestants being mad at him, but that doesn't happen so much in AU

on the flip side tho, there is a subset of tasks that are Contestant V Assistant and Alex Horne will do approx one per season but they're often close-ended. Cashman's CvA tasks can be open-ended in a way where he does a lot of extra work

i don't have time rn to do spreadsheet projects around taskmaster, but that doesn't mean I don't have idears that wouldn't be answered by a spreadsheet. Quantifying and qualifying CvA tasks across UK, NZ, and AU would be fun. I also have a question of if the "saved for last" contestant for each task is more often the winner or loser of that task, my guess is winner
