I know myself well enough to know I would not be very good at fanbiding and that would mainly frustrate me, so while I love fan binding and admire those who do it, I've never dabbled.

I have never regretted that decision more than I did waking up from the dream I recently had, where I excitedly bought a rare copy of the novel that Goncharov (1973) was based on, opened it up, and found that it was a hollowed out "book safe" for keeping valuables in.

I tracked down a copy of this invaluable classic and somehow got my hands on a near pristine copy secondhand from the 4th printing. It’s lost the dustjacket, alas, but that means I got it for like £5 and not the £4200 a first edition printing in fine condition goes for.

2019: three friends move in together. I don't want to call it "[friend that I've known the longest]'s house" because they're all my friends and it's all their house. I ask them to come up with a name for the house and they name it after a 3ft tall plastic skeleton in their living room

2019-2026: this group of friends move twice, each house gets a modified version of the original name and also the trio is referred to by the house name as well. Also two of my other friends move in together and their apartment gets a name too, meaning a precedent has been set

2026: trio buys a house and there's a question of what's the new name? Instead of a new iteration of the skeleton, it's going to be based on their initials. I am full of platonic love that a question I had almost a decade ago is impacting a house they're going to have for decades to come ❤️❤️❤️❤️
