I wonder how they’re going to respond the next time they see something fucked up in fandom, or worse, experience it. Like the rampant sexual harassment and assault at conventions. If a 12 year old snuck into see Deadpool or It and then complained to the threats about it, the theater would probably call their parents and report them for sneaking into an R rated movie.

I have been a feminists for too many years and I have seen with my own two eyes that feminism has done way too much damage to ever be allowed anywhere near a conversation about men’s issues.

When you want to talk about men’s issues; of being viewed as disposable and having to fight or do tough jobs, that is because of traditional gender roles and men being told to man up and stop complaining. To be the primary breadwinner, because “real men make the money and real men fight”. When men can’t meet these expectations by traditional society how does that make them feel? Being told to “man up”, and men actually trying to do it, this repression of and the inability to express emotions is why so many men commit suicide.

And, the reason why men lose custody battles is because women are viewed as nurturing caregivers while men aren’t. The reason why women face less harsh sentences is because they are viewed as less of a threat just because traditional society views them as weaker. Same thing goes for talking about women who abuse men and saying “he’s a man, she can’t hurt him”. 

Women had jobs. Women were respected members of society. Men were drafted en-masse by the kings to die in pointless territorial conflicts and women had to take care of the things at home.

You’re thinking of the aristocracy, a 0.1% of all of humanity 100-1000 years ago and even then, Catherine the Second is known to be one of the biggest warmongers in history.

Women had the right to vote even before suffrage if they were landowners, which wasn’t even an unheard of thing.

Post ww2 - pre 90s NA still saw Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan. Men were randomly chosen to die in foreign countries for reasons they didn’t understand. Meanwhile women experienced explosive growth in their rights and representation, while men can’t even get the state to fund one abuse shelter.

Tell me. Why would anyone hire a man if you supposedly could pay a woman less for the same job?

Did you know that the equal pay act was passed under Kennedy.

Then got upset when you pointed out that, during the time period this shit was decided, women were in positions of power and thus had influence over creating them, and tried to backtrack and say “oh, but I only meant post world war 2!” As if post world war 2 women somehow magically lost all the shit they had before.

The idea of a “binary code” was originally developed in the textile industry in pretty much this exact form. Remember punch cards? Probably not! They were a precursor to the floppy disc, and were used to store information in the same sort of binary code that we still use:

But what does it have to do with textiles? Almost exactly what OP suggested. Now even though machine knitting is old as balls, I feel that there are few people outside of the industry or craft communities who have ever seen a knitting machine. 

Here’s a flatbed knitting machine (as opposed to a round or tube machine), which honestly looks pretty damn similar to the ones that were first invented in the sixteenth century, and here’s a nice little diagram explaining how it works:

But what if you don’t just want a plain stocking stitch sweater? What if you want a multi-color design, or lace, or the like? You can quite easily add in another color and integrate it into your design, but for, say, a consistent intarsia (two-color repeating pattern), human error is too likely. Plus, it takes too long for a knitter in an industrial setting. This is where the binary comes in!

Here’s an intarsia swatch I made in my knitwear class last year. As you can see, the front of the swatch is the inverse of the back. When knitting this, I put a punch card in the reader,

and as you can see, the holes (or 0′s) told the machine not to knit the ground color (1′s) and the machine was set up in such a way that the second color would come through when the first color was told not to knit.

With a Jacquard loom instead of painstakingly picking up every little thread by hand to weave in a pattern, which is what folks used to do for brocades in Ye Olde Times, this basically automated that. Essentially all you have to do to weave here is advance the punch cards and throw the shuttle. SO EASY. 

ALSO, it’s not just “little old ladies sewed the first spacesuits,” it’s “the women from the Playtex Corp were the only ones who could sew within the tolerances needed.” Yes, THAT Playtex Corp, the one who makes bras. Bra-makers sent us to the moon. 

And the cool thing with them was that they did it all WITHOUT PINS, WITHOUT SEAM RIPPING and in ONE TRY. You couldn’t use pins or re-sew seams because the spacesuits had to be airtight, so any additional holes in them were NO GOOD. They were also sewing to some STUPID tight tolerances-in our costume shop if you’re within an eighth of an inch of being on the line, you’re usually good. The Playtex ladies were working on tolerances of 1/32nd of an inch. 1/32nd. AND IN 21 LAYERS OF FABRIC.

Luckily I had an older sister to fill some of the gaps. But if she wasn’t there? As a five year old I had to just suck it up. He couldn’t escort me to the bathroom or bring me into the men’s room. He couldn’t sit in on ballet class. He couldn’t chaperone class trips.

Thats my personal anecdote, but there’s others of fathers having their children snatched right in front of them by women. When they give chase, the woman just has to scream for help and the father will be chased down and beaten into submission by heroic bystanders while his child is taken away right in front of him. Nobody will ask questions. Nobody will believe a word the father says. Nobody will question the woman. I’ve read about several instances of this. Sometimes they actually find the baby later. Nobody ever seems very sorry that they attacked a man trying to keep his child safe; they just justify that he seemed suspicious.

People I like can be divided into two groups: a) those who enjoy and get Charles M. Schulz’s wonderful Peanuts comic strip; b) those fools who don’t. All of human life is in the artist and writer’s 17,897 comic strips.

In 1968 Schulz noticed the Civil Rights movement, the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., and read a letter from Los Angeles schoolteacher Harriet Glickman. She had a question for Schulz: would he include a black child in the Peanuts gang?

To which Schultz responded with the letter above, in what reads like an incredibly respectful and progressive manner.

He isn’t black and doesn’t want to offend the black community by doing them wrong in his portrayal, that would even work today as a reason.

Mrs. Glickman responded:

Dear Mr. Schulz,

I appreciate your taking the time to answer my letter about Negro children in Peanuts.

You present an interesting dilemma. I would like your permission to use your letter to show some Negro friends. Their responses as parents may prove useful to you in your thinking on this subject.

True to her word, Mrs Glickman showed the letter to others. Kenneth C. Kelly, one of Mrs. Glickman’s ‘Negro friends’, saw the missive and wrote to the artist:

Dear Mr. Schulz:

With regards to your correspondence with Mrs. Glickman on the subject of including Negro kids in the fabric of Peanuts, I’d like to express an opinion as a Negro father of two young boys. You mention a fear of being patronizing. Though I doubt that any Negro would view your efforts that way, I’d like to suggest that an accusation of being patronizing would be a small price to pay for the positive results that would accrue!

We have a situation in America in which racial enmity is constantly portrayed. The inclusion of a Negro supernumerary in some of the group scenes in Peanuts would do two important things. Firstly, it would ease my problem of having my kids seeing themselves pictured in the overall American scene. Secondly, it would suggest racial amity in a casual day-to-day sense.

I deliberately suggest a supernumerary role for a Negro character. The inclusion of a Negro in your occasional group scenes would quietly and unobtrusively set the stage for a principal character at a later date, should the basis for such a principal develop.

We have too long used Negro supernumeraries in such unhappy situations as a movie prison scene, while excluding Negro supernumeraries in quiet and normal scenes of people just living, loving, worrying, entering a hotel, the lobby of an office building, a downtown New York City street scene. There are insidious negative effects in these practices of the movie industry, TV industry, magazine publishing, and syndicated cartoons.

Black/brown kids don’t get the luxury to “learn and grow”. They are forced to be grown and know right from wrong well before their teen years.

Racism is taught, not something you are born into. You won’t teach anyone to learn by making them suffer, all you do is teach them to hide it. 

Also, black and brown kids can be equally racist and ignorant. Would you be fine with homophobic black kids having scholarships taken from them and their lives ruined?

Also, I like how simply having a black supporting cast member is the equivalent to a “Mammie”. Susie Carmichael isn’t even that, she’s a main character meant as a nice counterpart to Angelica, and she has her own struggles and plotlines.

Also, Garnet isn’t black. She isn’t even human. 

Pocohantas isn’t ‘open to invasion’. In fact, she’s actively trying to prevent conflict between both peoples. She’s a contrast to the more impulsive John. Chel isn’t facilitating an invasion either. She’s a con woman who goes along with two con men for her own benefit. At first. 

But she also reduces the power of the evil priest, and helps save the city from Cortes, an actual invader.

Esmerelda is a Romani, not a conventional “POC”. They’re generally considered white. Plenty of white people have brown skin. 

I like how they have examples from the Proud Family for Colorism, where Penny Proud - the girl in the middle - is the main protagonist. And the show has a great deal of diverse skin colors, including in Penny’s own family. The blue girls are a stylistic choice. 

Also, light-skinned black people exist. I’m one of them, depending on who you ask.

Agency: Tiana’s the main protagonist. She’s the protagonist driving the plot. Even before she was transformed, she was already headstrong and determined.

Or is that an allusion to that stupid cherry-picked meme that claimed non-white Disney protagonists are much more likely to be turned into some animal, while ignoring many non-white protagonists who stayed human the entire movie? Such as, off the top op my head, Mowgli, Bonnie from Toy Story, or Russel from Up? Not to mention many movies where the protagonists aren’t even human. 

Even in Emperor’s New Groove, everyone else in the cast stays human, and Kuzco is a co-protagonist. With a human.

Antifa labeled a black man, who has worked to de-radicalize KKK members, a white supremacist at a Pennsylvania event last month.

Daryl Davis was a speaker at an “Ending Racism” event organized by MINDS, which was part of a series “intended to create dialogue and promote viewpoint diversity.” Davis, a musician, is a race relations expert who has spent years speaking to and rehabilitating members of groups like the KKK.

About 40 Antifa members showed up to protest “Ending Racism,” which was moved from a New Jersey theater to a center in Pennsylvania because Antifa threatened to burn down the theater, Davis told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Some Antifa members called Davis, who is black, a white supremacist for attending the event.

“I laughed, I thought it was funny,” Davis told the DCNF. “What it proves is they had no point. They had no evidence of anything. When it boils down to just name calling people and you don’t show any proof and you refuse to talk to them … they refused to even come in. There were no Klansman or Neo-Nazi’s in there or alt-right people.”

Antifa was invited to come inside and attend the after-party but refused, Davis said.

Many Antifa members are aware of Davis and the work he has done, he said. Davis attended the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he spoke to members of both sides, continuing his work to help individuals involved in any extremist group to lessen violence and racism in America.

Antifa is a “radical” group heading in the same direction as the KKK, Davis added. He mentioned the KKK’s typical attire of covering their faces with hoods and masks to cover their identity, noting that “Antifa is now the one wearing the bandanas across their face or the masks.”

“Half of them may believe [in] what they’re doing … they may believe that they’re doing some good. Davis has been called “just about every name” from “race traitor” to “Oreo” to “a pimp and a prostitute,” he wrote on Facebook. He noted it was the first time he was called white supremacist, adding it “threw me for a loop.”

There’s a conspiracy theory going around that the first Jews, the first Hebrews, the first Israelites, were black .Like, straight up, afro havin’ black people. And that the white man came in, killing them and stole their religion. Because, you see, “The Chosen people are the black African people.”

They believe the Semitic people today, the Indo-European branch of humanity that settled and became indigenous to the Middle Eastern lands of North African and Asia Minor, are just Europeans who came down, murdered the natives and stole all their land and wealth. That they’re not REAL Semites, just… the equvalent of what, “The Black Hebrew Israelites” are today.
