so i’m asian. i’ve grown up with “positive stereotypes” about my people. i grew up on the assumption that we are naturally smart, naturally beautiful, naturally demure and naturally dainty. i grew up with people believing we all look the same when we can generally tell ourselves apart. and i know that it’s probably not deliberate, which is why i’m not aggressively ranting about it right now, but a lot of people who use asian faceclaims continue to perpetuate these stereotypes. i see my people used as faceclaims, as the base of OCs, and sometimes it’s respectfully done and sometimes it’s just really easy to tell when someone’s watched too many kdramas and just assume they’re representative of any of our societies and so turn us into tropes based on that…lol but anyway

Asian is a RACE, not an ethnicity and i worry it’s a lack of that understanding that leads people to just use asian faces so willy-nilly… please do not use korean idols as the face for your japanese muse. please do not use a chinese idol as the face of your korean muse, etc. this is a direct implication that we all look alike and you are treating ethnic groups with different cultures, histories, and traditions as interchangable assets for the sake of your fiction. if you actually apply the ethnicity to the muse that’s another thing but from what I’ve seen that’s pretty rare so lmao. naturally this applies to other races and ethnic groups as well but the asian aspect is my only lane.
