Their relationship is pretty straightforward - they enthusiastically adore and aggressively support each other! Connie is actually one of the few guys in the corps she warms up to pretty quickly due to the fact that there is just nothing intimidating about him! He's shorter than she is pre-timeskip, and even post-timeskip she can still pick him up in a hug!

So, while it's pretty hard for most people to get a conversation out of her, she actually just talks to him when he approaches her instead of freezing up and shutting down. He's curious about the journals she's constantly scribbling in, but then a little bewildered by the sheer amount of information, charts, and illustrations about plants, animals, the weather, remedies, and vaguely eerie folk beliefs. She's braced for him to make fun of it, but it turns he's self conscious, too, because in his hometown he was bullied a lot for being 'dumb.' (There's one of the official Smartpass side stories that talks about this!) Vega tells him she doesn't think he's dumb just because he doesn't have a ton of facts memorized, and that she's not even particularly convinced she's intelligent just because she does.

They realize they've both been bullied and that they're both worried about whether they can ever really be taken seriously as soldiers, and they quickly decide, forever completely unspoken and yet completely mutually, that they've got each other's backs in the face of judgment or bullying or being told to shut up.

Vega normally tries to avoid any kind of conflict with people like Ymir because she knows Ymir's very pointed, personal mean comments are going to upset her too much, but if Ymir picks on Connie, Vega will put herself between them and tell Ymir to back the fuck off. If someone calls Connie dumb in an actually mean way, Vega is practically burning a hole in the back of their head with a creepy wild animal stare. If someone remarks unkindly about Vega while she's not around, Connie will tell them to keep their mouth shut with zero hesitation. Someone tries to talk over her just because she's softspoken and doesn't advocate for herself? Connie's immediately telling them to let her talk. If Vega and Sasha had a serious fight and asked Connie to take a side, he would probably cry and then they'd both feel bad. Now and then, when Vega is on her dangerously reckless bullshit mode, Connie is one of the few people she'll stop and listen to, because when even Connie is suddenly being serious, she takes notice.

Where Sasha is Connie's 'twin,' Vega is more like his protective big sister (although sometimes he would beg to differ that HE'S the big brother)

They're two of the very fastest on the ODM gear out of the entire 104th, but while Connie is known for using his speed to avoid engaging with titans, Vega's speed is part of her often reckless attacking style

Vega has always had a soft spot for Connie (something she has in common with Reiner, actually 🤔), but particularly after Sasha's death, Vega sticks very close to him and is constantly checking on him and worrying about him

Connie looks up to Vega a lot more than Vega realizes. Vega would be surprised to learn that anyone looks up to her, really

Vega has a very dry sense of humor and it takes Connie a LONG time to be able to tell when she's joking

Connie is one of the few to NOT be shocked by Vega's Liberio escapade resulting in her dragging Reiner back to Paradis - like, he wouldn't say he was expecting her to do it, but he and Sasha aren't sure why any of the others didn't think that was a VERY Vega Thing to do

Vega's got a very high pain tolerance, having grown up getting constant cuts and scrapes. Also, did you know redheads have a higher threshold for pain? She's got a low tolerance for heat and sunburns like crazy, though, of course. The redhead mutant powers don't help her much when she's being tortured by the MP, unfortunately.
