Video Submission Examples and Help
Here are some vlog links, resources, and general things to keep in mind while shooting your footage!
The following links are examples of 'vlogs', short for video blogs. I'll go over this again but I will most likely not be using the audio attached to the footage you send me. With that in mind, if it helps, you can watch one or all of the following links without sound to better understand the kind of shots I'm looking to use in this project.
When doing film projects there are two basic kinds of footage, a-roll and b-roll.
A-roll footage consists of your main narrative. B-roll footage consists of supplemental video that is considered secondary to your main footage.
Let us look at our 1st vlog as an example! Putting aside the audio commentary, the a-roll consists of talking head shots/selfie shots while the b-roll is traveling shots and those showing scenery.
In our 2nd vlog example, you can see examples of how to partially film yourself (a-roll) and lots of good examples of daily life footage (b-roll).
Our 3rd vlog example has a variety of cozy clips; they're a little shaky, a little wandering, and that's okay! Lots of charm and happiness felt! In this example the a-roll is tricot hitting all the stages on their tour while the b-roll is all those cozy goofy shots in-between being on stage.
Do you need to film A and B-roll?: Yes, please do!! If you're going to film yourself on a day out, just recording yourself saying hi I'm leaving and then again at your destination going hi I made it doesn't fluff out and *show* the experience of your journey! When in doubt, think of your day as if it were a movie. You have to show your audience how you get to where you're going. Even if all you're going to do for your footage is a nice lap around your own neighborhood, please take a moment to consider the places you want to film yourself in and the various sceneries you want to show.
To clarify I am NOT asking you to film and submit your own completed vlog, just something like 5 clips (or more) dynamically showing whatever it is you would like to show.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN FILMING:
- Please film horizontally!!!
- You do not have to show yourself if you don't want to
- If you don't want to film yourself maybe take something to represent yourself; be it a stuffed animal, your favorite deco PC, your lightstick, your dog, SOMETHING to fill the a-roll with
- If talking while filming helps you feel comfortable please do so! But again please keep in mind that I am probably not going to be using any submitted footage audio (But I might? I'll need to gather all the submitted footage first before really thinking about it)
- As I am unlikely to use the audio of folk's filmed footage, don't stress about how things sound or if you're in a loud place or anything like that
- Do you have a cliché urge to film your walking feet? GO FOR IT, HELL YEAH THAT'S B-ROLL BABY!
- Of course you can show off your SHRINee but you don't have to make SHINee the vocal point - your footage is about you
- The song shortlist for this project so far is Beautiful, Beautiful Life, Destination, and I Really Want You; those are the vibes!
