          again, it wasn’t like Bucky Barnes was a man too used to luxuries or, even, to material loftiness; Vic’s place was a very cozy one, as far as he could see. but complimenting the house was the easy part, wasn’t it? the real challenge would be everything else — namely, to try and share a bit of his heart with her. to properly let her know how much he’d appreciated their date, how much he always appreciated their time together, how much he appreciated her company in general. taking a careful sip, he leaned back on one of the counters, for now, and let his gaze remain on the floor tiles for a little bit longer.

‘ and any place would be nice WITH YOU, anyway. ‘

          that was another debatable topic, wasn’t it? — whether he deserved any of what had happened? certainly, the only rational answer would be no; no, he did not deserve to have become a prisoner of war for decades and decades. did not deserve all those years of torture and abuse. did not deserve to be sat down on that chair and UNMADE from the inside out, time and time again. and yet… there was no shushing the little voice in his head, whispering that maybe he ought to have fought back harder. to have, somehow, found a way to prevent all the assassinations that now stained his hands. to have found a way to take his own life while he still could, before any of it escalated terribly as it did.

          thankfully, Victoria’s next words succeeded in catching his attention yet again, before his thoughts could spiral even further down into that dark, grim hole. curious gaze was on the notebook now, accepting it as she handed it over. using a brand new notebook for the first time was always special, wasn’t it? a faint smile crept across Bucky’s lips, as he ran his hand over the cover and, then, flipped through a few pages. next, he left it on his lap and grabbed the pen, though not putting it to use just yet.
