Hey Static fans who aren’t familiar with the comics, todays I’m gotten tell you about Virgil and Frieda’s relationship in the comics and why they make a good couple. Basically why you should ship them. I’ve talked about me shipping them before but I’ve never given actually reasons why.

I’ve already mentioned this in past posts but if you didn’t already know Frieda is a major supporting character which means she is just as important as Richie and Virgil’s family. She’s his best friend, kinda his main love interest and the show did almost nothing with her and gave her role to Richie. So no one knows Virgil’s relationship with her and why they’re good together.

So why are they good together ?

Like a good love interest Frieda helps Virgil grow as a person/character. She’s not afraid to call him out on his bull. She helped him learn not to be anti Semitic and homophobic.

With the anti Semitic part Static was dealing with a racist villain that was anti Semitic and was trying to start a race war between black people and Jewish people. Virgil was starting to believe that conspiracy but after talking to Frieda and Rick he learned that it was wrong. When Rick came out as gay Virgil didn’t like it. Comic Virgil is a good person but he can also be a jerk. This was also the 90s and the 90s wasn’t as accepting as it is today. Frieda was mad at Virgil for being homophobic and after thinking about what Frieda said he came to the conclusion he was wrong. He eventually apologies to Rick.

They have good chemistry together. Out of all his love interests Static has the best chemistry with Frieda. 

How could you not ship them after reading this ? A mutant bug thought they couple even though they won’t.

They have a great friendship with each other. A good relationship is built on a good friendship. If they are not your OTP they should at least be your BrOTP or both or OT3 with Richie.

They are really good friends. They really care about each other. Virgil and Frieda’s relationship is slowburn built up type relationship, so they have to be friends and get character development first before they can get together. Their relationship is developed really good in the comics. I’m worried if they do it again in a reboot, it won’t be written good. I actually really hate the best friends to lover trope, especially when it’s a guy and girl best friends but Virgil and Frieda are really good together. Frieda is different than other love interests. Virgil likes her right away but she doesn’t. She falls in love with him over time, after getting to know him. 

They become canon. If you like canon ships they eventually become canon but not in Static’s comics. Milestone shutdown before they could get together. A lot of books ended on cliffhangers including Static’s. I think if Milestone hadn’t shutdown when it did I think they would’ve became canon in his book.

They become canon in the second issues of Milestone Forever. Milestone Forever is basically the ending of the Milestone universe. The final fate of the characters before they merged into the DC Universe. If you read all of Static’s comics and his appearances in other comics and than read Milestone Forever, it feels like a ending to his character. Same with the other Milestone characters. It’s a good ending to his character, the only thing I don’t like is that he’s quit being Static as a adult when he should’ve become a great powerful hero in the future. He should also be a scientist and a doctor. Besides that he’s got a good future. He’s married to Frieda and two beautiful kids, Larry and Sadie. Static’s kids are twins and have his powers. I like to call them the Electric Twins, like how Barry and Wally’s kids are called the Tornado Twins.

 If they ever bring Static back which they are, I want Static and Frieda to get together a bit sooner. I think they had him be with Daisy a bit too long. If Frieda is truly meant to be his main love interest they should get together sooner and on panel. We never see how they get together on panel, we just see them married. I would gotten them together when Static was with The Teen Titans, if it couldn’t be his old book. You can have Static be with other people but at the end of the day he’s going to be with Frieda. Them being married in Milestone Forever means they’re endgame.

This is why I think Static and Frieda are a good couple. Why they should be a couple. Frieda makes Virgil grow as a person/character. She helps him learn not to be anti Semitic and homophobic. She gives him good advice when he needs help stopping villains. They have a good friendship. A good relationship starts with a good friendship. They have a strong bond. They have good chemistry together. They’re always there for each other when they need each other. They are cute together.

Y’know I wish more people read Static’s comics, not necessarily cause they’re good but for more people to shipping Static and Frieda together. The comics are still good and people should read them. Besides reading them online and buy them off Amazon it is a bit hard finding his comics.

 So here are shippy moments between Static and Frieda from the comics and the cartoon. I’ve already shared some of them in my Why Static and Frieda make a good couple post but they’re were some shipping moments I felt out. The best shippy moments are in the beginning and towards the end of his series and later in Teen Titans and Milestone Forever and in beginning of the cartoon. Spoilers from the comics.

The first shipping moment is when Frieda first means Static in the first issue.

Static had just saved her from Hotstreak’s gang. Virgil is taking the opportunity of Frieda not knowing his identity to flirt with her. You don’t introduce a girl like this and she not be the endgame love interest. Even though Virgil has alot of love interests I think they make it clear that he’s going to end up with Frieda.

The next shipping moment is from the same issues.

This is right after Static saved Frieda. More flirting. These are some of the first panels I saw from Static’s comics before I read them. I already shipped them from the cartoon but these panels made me shipped them more. Virgil and Frieda have alot of chemistry in these panels like they just ooze chemistry. 

This is from issue 10, we also get a art change. I don’t know if you want to count this as a shippy moment but I thought it was cool seeing Virgil flying Frieda around. Up until this point he hadn’t done that with anyone.  

Skipping ahead to issue 33 to keep this post from getting too long. In this issue and issue 32 Static is dealing with a new villain named the Swarm. We learn that Virgil doesn’t kill bugs he takes them outside and sings born free and Frieda loves that about Virgil.

Swarm is watching them outside the window. The Swarm thinks Virgil and Frieda are a couple and that makes Static powerful and being with him will make her powerful. Keep in mind that Virgil is actually still dating Daisy during this time but the Swarm see the way Virgil and Frieda look at each other. This is apart of what I mean that they make it pretty clear that Virgil and Frieda will end up together even though he’s with other girls.

This is suppose to be serious but I find it hilarious that Swarm calls Virgil her man. Like, girl you are a bug.

The Swarm even tried to look like Frieda to get him to be with her.

Frieda also wore Static’s costume. She wore on the cover of issue 33 and in the same issue. This is like your girlfriend wearing your clothes. She didn’t have to wear it but she did. All she had to do was bring Virgil his costume. I think the writes wanted her to wear it to hint at her eating disorder while she was taking it off.

Next issue 43. I don’t want to spoiler too much about Frieda’s eating disorder cause the build up to it was well done but this is during her recovery. A villain who can steal powers took over her body. The villain even took Brickhouse’s powers, this is probably the first and only time we see Brickhouse human form. This is right after Frieda get’s her body back from the villain. She’s still not feeling good from her eating disorder and having her body taken over. Static tells her she’s the strongest people he knows. It’s a very tender moment.

Next shippy moment is when Static made a electric heart around Frieda in the first episode of the cartoon. This is when I first started shipping them as a kid.

The next shippy moment is in Teen Titans issue 82. Static had disappeared for a bit cause he got kidnapped by the Terror Titans to fight in the Darkseid fight club and then he joined the Teen Titans. He didn’t call his family or friends that he was okay so Frieda was mad at him when he came to Dakota when the virus broke out. This was Static’s arc when he was with the Teen Titans and this is at the end of his arc when he’s saying bye to Frieda to go back with the Teen Titans. These are also some of the first panels I saw from Static’s comics before I read them. Like I said I already shipped from the cartoon but these panels and the panels from Static’s first issue made me ship them harder. Maybe it’s me but it feels like they were going to kiss here but it got cut.

The final shippy moment from Milestone Forever issue 2. Milestone Forever was meant to be the ending to the Milestone universe cause it shut down before they could end it in the 90s. Which is why I consider Static and Frieda to be endgame. In Milestone Forever we’re shown Static’s future and he’s married to Frieda with 2 kids, Larry and Sadie. This is the first time they’re canon.

There are a few more shippy moments between Static and Frieda like in issue 8 of Static’s New 52 series but I didn’t want to make this post too long. I started making this post before the final reboot announcement from DC Fandome and before the movie announcement. I hope the reboot and Static’s movie remembers Static and Frieda relationship and makes them canon again. Virgil’s relationship with Frieda is a very important part of his character.

same mfs who scream about “we need more cringe and or neurodivergent coded female MCs” and then complain about her “quirkiness”. i think there’s a lot of internalized stuff that a lot of yall may need to unpack there.

and i understand being upset about the owl house but u guys also need to remember that there are REAL PPL who create these projects. Disney is just the one that OWNS them. imagine being the creator of hexed who worked extremely hard on their creation and finally ready to release it out into the world, only for ppl online to tear apart the female mc for being “quirky” or “cringe” and not giving it a chance before ur full creation is even out yet.

what happened to supporting real artists over ai??? plus the only resemblance to the owl house that is shown so far is that the female mc is an outcast at school due to being the weird kid, is a poc, discovers she has magical powers, and goes to another magical world.

the owl house doesn’t own that concept and there are plenty of stories that have done this exact thing long before hexed and the owl house and there will continue to be more in the future.

luz never had any magical powers while she was in the human world unlike Billie who discovered that she had them in the school bathroom. also are we gonna ignore/forget the way ppl treated Luz when the owl house first came out?

ppl talked about her the same way ya’ll are talking about Billie, slapping on the “quirky Disney female character” label on her and calling her “annoying” and “cringe”.

Disney sucks for how they treated the owl house,but don’t take ur rage out on this movie and the creator of hexed who most definitely had nothing to do with it.

also..u do realize that Dana Terrence is not the sole creator of Knights of Guinevere right? not only that but it was already confirmed that the message of KoG was not to poke fun at ppl who still like Disney nor to poke fun at the human creators behind Disney projects.

it’s about still having love for all these different characters from these different IPs from since u were a child and still continuing to love them, while ALSO recognizing and being sad about the monster the company behind these IPs have become thanks to corporate greed.
