It’s pretty clear that they have no intention of bringing back the reply function, right? They’re hoping that, without replies, people will reblog more thus creating more posting on tumblr, right? I’m sure their Yahoo overlords are pressing pretty hard for specific metrics and clearly replies isn’t one of them.
And I am reblogging more without replies, but everyone (in my corner or tumblr anyway) is posting less overall. Maybe they just don’t care about my type of user? The type that makes personal posts and engages with other people’s personal posts rather than just being reblog machines?
It seems like such a bad long term strategy to me, though. Making it difficult for your users to build community makes it really easy for people to get bored of your website and move on to the next thing. I’ve been on tumblr for 8 years and it isn’t because of the site itself, it’s because of the people I’ve met. Making it difficult to connect with those people takes away my incentive to stick around.
@david @staff @support - you’re alienating your most loyal users. But maybe you prefer the spambot army.
+1 this is my feelings exactly! I used to be on Tumblr pretty much daily & loved being able to add something more than just clicking a heart if I enjoyed or related to a post. Now I read a post & want to say something then remember, oh yeah, no replies. I don't want to clog up the feed by reblogging to say "sorry you had a bad day" etc but most of my comments aren't really private message worthy either & that's why the reply feature was perfect.
Lately I just stop by here a few times a week to see what's up & I've basically stopped posting new content. It's just not as fun.
Pay CEOs in sandwiches and coats so they can’t spend the money on drugs and alcohol.
