The Reluctant Victor, inspired by The Reluctant Bride by Auguste Toulmouche - I just thought that this painting was SO perfect for Katniss and I had to draw it!

i've got the kind of eyebags that make people in movies say 'you look like hell, detective. go home.'
So~
Which character(s) are hanging out in your brain lately?
(I'm not going on anonymous because I feel too obviously me. Like a cheap masquerade mask that's hanging off one ear.)
Well I appreciate the honestly. 😄
I feel like Alys is a given. She and Lyonel are background noise in my brain (and throw Baelor in there too). Also thinking about Alys and Lyonel's daughter and her decendents. Maybe they make an appearance is ASOIAF somehow. George RR Martin loves his little generational reflections.
Lucy and Eddie are a close second. Although, not as focused. I keep spinning g around how to rewrite the final season to give them both satisfying arcs.
And just a little bit of an old regency romance I was playing around with. I've got a couple of them bouncing around the ol' noggin now and again.
I honestly need another vacation to actually focus. Real life has been kind of a mess lately.

What’s your go to gum flavor?
I admittedly don't chew a lot of gum these days. But I did enjoy a good blue 5 Gum back in middle school, it must be said.
Hi :)
Any headcanons you would consider giving one of your OCs?
Or do any of your OCs have daydreams that they never talk about? Like does Lucy ever imagine being a fashion designer or does Alys imagine sailing off to some other land?
Headcanons in general are a little broad. I've got a lot of random details about characters, but I'm never sure what sounds interesting.
As for daydreams, certainly.
Lucy doesn't really think about fashion designing so much as theatre
She does costume work for the drama club mostly because she's one of the few girls who knows how to sew without needing someone looking over her shoulder
What she really wants to do is act, specifically in musical theatre
There are times she pictures herself doing the big dramatic speech or the show stopping number
It ties into a lot with some of her insecurities of people not really remembering her, in her day dreams, people have to stop and listen
Alys day dreams of seeing the world
She read the story of Elissa Farman and how she planned to navigate the seas West of Westeros and wondered at her bravery
She devoured Lomos Longstrider's writers on the world and hoped as she grew older she could be some combination of the two
Of course, life didn't work out that way, but even after marrying Lyonel she wonders what could happen if they just...left
If they got on a ship, didn't tell anyone where they were going and just kept sailing
No keep, no responsibilities, just the horizon
It's a lovely dream

The midjourney stuff just reminds of when we were trying to find a new platform to host the ao3 donation form, and companies kept trying to tell me about all their "ai" features that would track donor engagement, and figure out the optimal pattern to email individual donors asking for follow up donations, and all the ways they suggest we manipulate people into staying on our websites. It was a great way to filter out who either wasn't listening to us when we described our ethics and donor base, or just didn't believe us.
Now granted ao3 is a unique case based on a) the amount of page views we get in any given time period and b) the fact that most donors absolutely do Not want to be identified as such anywhere, (the default "list of recent donors" module got nuked Immediately) but it surprised me some that the concept of "donors who value their privacy and would be furious at even the whiff of AI" is unique. Some of us really are just existing in different worlds.
Op's tags
#I just started dropping '2.5 Billion page views a month'#into conversations as early as possible bc they would Not believe me otherwise#it was right up there with having to say 'csam attacks' to get them to take my compartmentalization of information concerns seriously#turns out those are the magic words#otw#op
The last part was kind of insane, honestly. When we started changing platforms for the donor database, I kept telling them that yes I was aware we already had an account for the volunteer database, and no that could not be connected to the donor database. And they said yes fine sure and then connected them anyway. And I called them back and said, excuse me, I'm confused, I can see both databases. And they said, well, yeah, but it's only you, someone has to be able to see both databases to give other users access. The other users can't see both. And I said, no, we have been asking for a completely separate database. I should not be able to see both. And they said, you are one organization, one organization can't have two databases. And I said, last year someone used our volunteer email list to commit approximately one thousand felonies. Please feel free to imagine how much worse it could have been had they had a way to use volunteers' email addresses to get their legal names. We do not want this to be something anyone can do no matter how much we trust them. Let me describe those felonies to you in more detail. And they emailed me two hours later and said, you can have two separate databases.
This post feels like watching an iceberg go by in clear water. The amount of stuff going on beneath the surface of AO3 just astonishes.

I think Father Wicks actually fathered Monsignor Wicks. I think he sexually abused Grace and got her pregnant and kept her "under his roof" to keep it a secret.
1.) The diamond being named Eve's Apple when Eve is treated as the "original temptress" and most Christians interpret the apple thing as being exclusively the fault of Eve and her tits. Sin is seen as emanating from women and men's actions are blamed on that sin
2.) Catholicism and Christianity at large teach men that they are not truly capable of controlling themselves and if they harm a woman or even their own daughters, it's because said woman tempted them, and gives them permission to be angry at their victims for "seducing" them
3.) In chapter 19 of Genesis, Lot's daughters get him wasted in order to seduce him; this is, of course, one of the cultural narratives that is used to justify father-daughter sexual abuse. "It was HER idea SHE seduced ME if anything I'M the victim here!" This is relevant because Father Wicks preaching style would likely lean very heavily on the story of Sodom and Gomorrah
3.5) Earlier in the saga of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot offers his virgin daughters to a crowd of rapists as a distraction; the crowd is seeking to gang rape two (male) angels and Lot gives them his young daughters in exchange. The honor of women is disposable and can be exchanged for preserving the virtue and dignity of men.
4.) Mary is the bride of god, but Trinitarian doctrine, plus the idea of God as Patriarch, means that she is the "bride" of her father AND her son. There is no Marion iconography in the church. I cannot stress enough that no catholic parish on earth would hold mass without (with great emphasis) SHE.
5.) It is pretty standard practice for perpetrators of sexual violence to do deliberate damage to their victim's reputation and make it difficult for them to get anyone to help or even believe them, and literally everyone called Grace a whore AT HER FATHER'S PROMPTING
6.) Grace's terror and outrage are so intense in her death scene. She's so desperate to get away from her father's house and while I fully believe that IRL emotional abuse can make you that insane, most movies don't give purely emotional abuse that sort of gravity: to me, she was framed like a person who'd been violated, or like a slave fleeing captivity.
7.) Monsignor Wicks' behavior clearly indicates that he thinks of sexual impropriety as normal and not a big deal, meaning his childhood home likely lacked appropriate boundaries
8.) Martha tells us that Father Wicks was a widower and Grace was living alone with him. 'Daughter as a sexual replacement for dead wife' is a depressingly common trope in American fiction.
9.) "Harlot Whore" is redundant...until you remember that Harlot did not always refer to a prostitute. It sometimes refers to a male drifter or to a lecherous old man.
I will reblog this everytime I see it until my dying day
