Starting the process of making a top that is almost identical in shape to my current favorite top. 

You need: Apparel fabric that stretches in both directions.  If you’ve never done this before I recommend using a solid or a print on which direction doesn’t matter. Matching up stripes is not easy for a beginner.

Step 1: Trace the example shirt on the pattern paper.  Its a rough sketch, you don’t need to be exact.  I am using wrapping paper from Ikea!

Step 2: Cut out your pattern.

Step 3: Fold your pattern in half.  I use the neckline as my point of reference for folding, but sometimes if you really didn’t get the neckline symmetrical it won’t work well. Basically line up as many points as you can around the edges of the shirt. 

Step 4: Trim the edges on one side; flip the pattern and trim off the edges of the other side. You are trying to get the pattern as symmetrical as possible.  Don’t trim too much! Ere on the side of caution.
