[🔥] Caleb gave a nod. He turned away, knowing that they would have to have someone watching him while they discussed matters, but they couldn't exactly discuss it in front of Essek. The group would all want to be present. So, Caleb pulled out some materials from the pouch he carried and set them up. With a soft mutter of words, the items were set ablaze for a moment and a blue form of a cat appeared. It emerged from the flames and came to nuzzle Caleb's hand.
"Do you think you can keep an eye on this one for a few minutes?" he asked it, smiling fondly at the cat. It meowed at him, weaving around his legs before sitting in front of Essek. Caleb watched it for a moment before rising to his feet. "I will be back."
With that, he left Essek alone with Frumpkin. Essek would be able to hear the discussion beyond the door. Most of it was muffled, but occasionally someone would get loud enough for him to hear. Beau didn't trust that Essek wouldn't try to pull a fast one on them when they removed his armor, and there was some argument as to why they needed their guest to be comfortable or not.
Ultimately, they did decide that they would remove Essek's armor. The whole group came in as a precaution and Essek would be able to see the diverse group of individuals he was traveling with. They were a colorful bunch of misfits, and honestly, he fit right in with them.
The group surrounded Essek with varying degrees of readiness to fight should he try anything. Caleb was the one to take the initiative and undo the chains. They fell loose and rested around the chair. "Do you need help removing your armor?" he asks. "Of course he needs help! We're not risking him having some hidden weapon," Beau growls. "We searched his person, he didn't have--" but Caleb was cut off. "Caleb, do you want me to do it?" Beau asks, a stern expression on her face.
With a sigh, Caleb mutters something in Zemnian before moving to help remove the pieces of armor. With each piece removed, Essek looked less like an intimidating warrior and more like himself. It was as he was removing the last piece that they heard a knock at the front door of their abandoned farmstead they had found themselves hiding in.
Everyone froze, looking around at each other with a look of uncertainty. Molly and Nott went to slip out and see if they could catch a glimpse of who might be there, while Jester chased after Fjord who said something about getting her bag.
Caleb tries to calm his breathing and his beating heart, trying to listen to whatever was here and waiting them. He didn't need to strain his ears too long however because he could hear the front door suddenly burst open. "Scheiße.." he curses, noting that smoke was also coming in from somewhere. Beau had run out when she heard the door and Caleb could hear Nott yelling to scramble.
Gritting his teeth, Caleb reaches out to grab Essek by his wrist and pulls him to the far end of the room. He only lets go when he needs to try and push aside some clutter of items. "Come on..." he hisses, not having the upper body strength that some others do. Essek would be able to see that behind the crates Caleb was trying to move was a door. The wizard was reluctant to use magic right now, not wanting to draw attention, but he may just have to...
