CRANE:
â â Perhaps, but itâs better that way.â  The concept of lonely was something that confused Jonathan dearly ;; well, not the concept itself, but the bad weight that it carried around. He ENJOYED being alone, why did people interpret it as sad ??  Â
â â Edgar Allan Poe. Do you know him ?? â
âMaybe when youâre older it is.â You didnât need anyone. Not really. To Olvia, adults didnât need anyone because most of them already had their basics taken care of. Therefore, they didnât need to depend on anyone to take care of them.
âFath-â No. Not father anymore. âMathis had a few books of his but I didnât read any. What does he write about?âÂ
CRANE
Jonathan was glad she moved so quickly, but not surprised. Arkham had an unspoken rule ;; what happens in Arkham, will bring you consequences later, and nobody wanted a night-night visit from the Scarecrow. He had a book on his hand as well, and he opened it as he sat down next to the girl.
â â Friends is a strong word. I prefer allies. I also prefer not to deal with their shit so early in the morning. â   His eyes didnât even leave the book as he spoke in a monotone voice.
âSounds lonely. Allies donât last.â In her case, neither did family. Relationships in general just werenât dependable. Biting her lip a moment, Olvia considered going back to her book, but it was the first semblance of conversation sheâd had since arriving. Outside of berating from the guards anyway.Â
  âWhat are you reading?âÂ
scarletexlibris:
âIt isnât a trick, I assure youâI wouldnât have the job I have now if I were willing to hurt children.â AnymoreâŚjust the memory of the clocktower gambit with the first Robin was enough to make him wince.  That was over a decade ago, Alexander, you have changed immensely since then, let it go⌠âBesides, campus security is abysmal enough that they couldnât find you if I shoved you under their noses.  And I wouldnât worry about getting either of us into trouble.  The Headmaster already thinks of me as a useful nuisance, and the Academy has enough squattersâwhatâs one more between friends?â  He tried to reassure her with a smile and nodded his head toward the doors of the school.
âCrane was a professor once.â That didnât turn out so great for some of his students. As for campus security it wasnât like sheâd been worried to begin with. Thought it was probably better not to have another dead cop on hers hands if she was trying to lay low. âCops in general here arenât the brightest bulbs in the city.â With the exception of a spare few. Rocking on her heels hesitantly, Olivia bit her lip before walking towards the doors. âThanks.âÂ
CRANE:
Arkham was a mix of people ;; bright people with amazing minds, and crazy people that cried for their mommy at night. A real ball of madness, and Jonathan was used to it. Still, that didnât stop Jonathan from giving a deathly stare to the girl sitting on the couch.
â â Youâll have to excuse me, but THATâS MY SEAT. â
@shatteredcarr // ⼠âd.
Arkham was awful even at the best of times, it was worse when you were the only kid with the rogues gallery. Olivia jumped at the voice and quickly looked up from the book sheâd been reading. She really didnât need to make any enemies. Even if it did seem like a silly request to her. Placing the scrap fabric bookmark in place, Oliva scooted over to the other side of the couch.
âWhy there though? I thought the rogues had friends. Wouldnât it be better to sit with them?â

âWith all due respect, the father away you keep from that ludicrous madman, the better.â  Of all the people in the Gotham underground who desperately needed to have his head examined⌠well, no matter.  If anyone caught him talking like that, Alexander would have his lips sewn shut like Loki from the old tale.  The Dollmakerâs vengeance, he supposed.  âThe Academy doors are still unlockedâyou can sit in the infirmary until morning.â  Then he would have to decide what to do with her when the students started arrivingâŚ
âIf you think heâs bad, you havenât seen much of Matilda.â The actual bloodborne daughter of Dollmaker was just as bad if not worse, but what could you expect from a born and raised psychopath? At Alexanderâs offer, Oliva tilted in head in genuine surprise. âReally? Wonât you get in trouble for that?â The thought crosses her mind it could be a trap to land her back in Arkham. Trust was never really a strong suit. âIs this a trick?âÂ
intelgenesis:
â ââ-Perhaps. More like a paradox. â A soft bite on his lip while thinking. â Well? Iâd more like to see the judgeâs face after getting such an answer! â A chuckle assisted his response.
âI imagine heâd be surprised.â Though maybe not if he lived  in Gotham. âDo you think the judges here ever get surprised anymore? With all the weird cases they get and all.â How many weird ass costumed cases did a judge have to get before nothing fazed them anymore?
STARTER CALL
scarletexlibris:
âOh, believe me, I know,â Alexander replied solemnly.  Heâd seen too many of his students wander directly into peril not to know the manner of city Gotham was, even if he had never been a rogue.  âStill, for one of the Dollmakerâs childrenâunless I am very much mistaken, and I seldom amâit is even less safe.  Let us get you inside someplaceâŚâ
âNot his anymore. I doubt theyâd take me back now.â Not after letting Gordon go and turning them in. âI was a bad d-â doll  âdaughter.â It was bad enough to keep hidden from the cops, but it would only be a matter of time before Mathis broke out too. Rocking on her heels Olivia thought about it for a moment before giving a small nod.  â...Okay.âÂ

âThe academic district at night is no place for a child, my dear girl. Especially one of yourâŚparticular reputation.  Is there anywhere safe I can conduct you?â
âI didnât think I had a reputation.â It wasnât like too many people bothered to notice her anyway. Even before escaping Arkham. âGotham doesnât have safe places at night.âÂ
Iâve heard these get around more some reason so since Iâll be dropping back hereâLike/Reblog if you want to interact with a Olivia Carr (one of Dollmakerâs adopted children) from DC comics and Iâll check out your blog !!
intelgenesis:
â â You will hang me â. If they hang him, then the statement was true && they could only hang him for telling a lie. If they shoot him, then it makes the statement a lie and they were only to shoot him for telling the truth. An alternate solution is to say,  â You will not  shoot me â leading to the same quandary for the killers. â
âThat seems awfully complicated just for a man who has to decide to lie or tell the truth.â Wouldnât the killers kill the man anyway? They could say the riddle, but what proof did you have that they were telling the truth? âWhich answer do you think is better? I mean, I know theyâre both right but which one do you like more? Telling the truth, or lying?â

Mary had picked the window at random â it was the only one on that floor with the latch up, and sheâd though going up another flight on the fire escape was just begging to be spotted by a passing patrol. God knew theyâd been hot enough on her heels before an inmate had launched out of the dark heading the other way. It had been enough of a distraction to slip away down a side street.
Her clothes, stolen back from the storage room at Arkham, still had the faintest scent of smoke and gunpowder residue clinging to them from before sheâd been taken in; slipping in through the window, as her feet touched the carpet she wrinkled her nose at the smell. She stood on tiptoe to slide it shut â better not to have anyone else come crawling through â and froze at the voice, spinning to face the kid.
Shit.
This late at night, sheâd thought everyone should have been asleep inside. Of course, with her luck sheâd manage to find the one apartment in Gotham where people didnât actively try to sleep through the sirens. But just a kid - and one home alone. That she could deal with. Her bottom lip trembled, features crumpling into fear.Â
âPlease donât make me go out there again.â After so long without forcing her voice up into a higher pitch, the whisper alone had the first faint traces of an ache in her throat.
âI donât know how long theyâll be gone. They had to deal with an... incident.â If you could call one of the âdollsâ attempting suicide an âincidentâ. It happened once in awhile. It was a risk of housing so many dolls in one place. Even with the monitors it was hard to watch all of them 24/7. Matilda did her best to get them clean and healthy (their organs were only sellable that way anyway) before adding them to her dollhouse.Â
Keeping her voice low, Oliva looked around nervously. Almost as frightened as her unexpected guest. The apartment housed the would-be-dolls, sometimes creaks or footsteps would sound through the ceiling. If any woke up or heard them, or worse, Â if Father or Matilda heard them, it was unlikely the girl infront of her would survive the night.Â
âYou cannot stay here. If Matilda spots you, you will not be able to leave. Sheâs been looking for a healthy girl...â To complete the set. Every dollhouse had to have a complete family. âWhy are you here? People never come here.âÂ
rex-paradoxum:
ăÂżăâ Ah, now everything made sense. Of course she was trying to escape. That would have been the only logical explanation.
There were always going to be the inmates who saw crawling through the ventilation system was a means of entertainment, or a method of sneaking into a cell and killing someone without beng detected, all of which were perfectly possible in Arkham. Thatâs why he had reacted with such timidness. Now he was just lucky that it was someone who had a lttle bit of sense at least.
âItâs no problem - Iâve been caught myself, so I get how it feels. Scary, huh?â He murmured, keeping his voice low in case there were still any wardens lurking nearby, âCrazy? Maybe we are. I question it a lot. What I have going on in my head definitely isnât normal by any meansâŚbut thatâs enough about that. Whatâs your next plan of action?â
âYeah, and I usually donât scare easily.â Dollmaker kinda took that out of you. If anything, she was scared of being put with wherever Matilda and him were. If they knew she ratted them out to Gordon, being a doll was the least of her worries.Â
âNot dying? I donât know. I got as far as the main entrance but thereâs no way to get out with the guards there. The hole where Joker blew out last time is still under construction and last I got a peak it wasnât close to being fully reinforced. So, theoretically it could be weak enough that a tiny explosion shock wave would crack it open again but I have no idea how to make something like that.â Where was Firefly when you needed him?Â
âIâm Oliva, by the way.âÂ
