As she steps into his office, she can see the discarded takeout containers on one end of his desk, and a very stressed Beau hunched over his laptop. He knows Terra’s there but doesn’t acknowledge her until she comes up behind him and puts her hands on his shoulders.

He leans back, looks up at her and puts his hands around her wrists.

“Sorry, Ter. I don’t think I’ll even be back before you fall asleep. Don’t wait up for me, alright?”

“That’s a real shame… I guess I’ll be off to the Battle Zones then. Kiss for good luck?”

“Of course”, he says as he gets up from his chair and pulls her into a kiss on the lips, and then several pecks to her cheek for good measure.

She’s about to turn towards the elevator to make an exit when she feels his grab her by the arm.

“Wait. Could you… ugh, this is so pathetic…I need you right now. It’s been so long. Please…”

She can’t deny it, it really had been a while since they had a chance to be intimate. For the past 3 weeks, he’d just come home late, take a shower, and sleep. Even on the Saturdays that he has off, he spends most of it paying back his sleep debt.

There’s a look in his eye… a mix of lust, love and fatigue.

With a defeated but amused sigh, she nods and follows him into a room hidden in the sides of his office where he normally rested in when pulling all-nighters. It came equipped with a single size bed, some spare clothes, and an… assortment of magazines from years before that have since gathered dust. Beau shamefully moves them out of sight.

As Beau’s tiredly fumbling with his belt buckle Terra pushes him backwards on the bed and climbs on top of him.

“Just sit back and relax, I’ll take care of you today.”

He tries his hardest to be patient as she unbuckles his pants, pulling down his boxers, and freeing his already hard cock.

As time drags on, the rumors start to border into conspiracy territory.

“A guy who works night shift told me he saw the boss leavin’ the office with her pretty late last night!”

“Maybe he punished us just to try and keep us quiet… what other reason could there be.”

“He’s changed a little since she came along, y’know? He doesn’t scrutinize my reports as much as before”

“Get this, a buddy of mine who patrols the Jaune district saw them together getting ice cream! There’s one right near the office, why would he choose one so far away?! I say he’s tryin’ keep it a secret…”

“I heard from the delivery guys that he’s sent at least a couple packages to Hotel Z…”

“But, hey, if Philippe says she’s in the clear, I guess she’s alright. They do look good together.”

Beau is an observant man. He has eyes and ears around the city, even on his own grunts, so these rumors eventually do reach him.

…But somehow, he’s not mad about it. It’s all rather amusing to him now. He’s still trying to solve her little mystery, these gestures are merely an act to get on her good side. If his own grunts can’t see that, then clearly it’s working.

But that last one… “They look good together.”

"Apollo pushed her into the pond", He says with a frown.

Upon hearing this, Beau angrily marches over to the pond and drags his 11 year old eldest child out by the ear, kicking and screaming. Terra stays behind to comfort Alouette with pieces of cheese on crackers topped with some jam, as well as juiceboxes that's also shared with Oleander. She also gives her a once-over to check for injuries and thankfully she's complete unharmed.

When Beau returns, he sets his son down, reprimanding him and makes him apologize to his little sister.

Terra asks him why he would do something like that to her, and he ashamedly replies,

"Because her name is said like Alou-wet and not Alou-dry..."

Beau lets out an exasperated sigh while Terra tries her hardest not to laugh. He even inherited his terrible jokes.

It's just another one of those little things you don't often think about because it's so normal to human life. He didn't have anyone to celebrate his best childhood moments or tease him for his worst moments.

A lot of embarrassing childhood stories come from kids being scared of something silly and running to their parents for comfort, doing something their parents told them not to, or saying words incorrectly.

And I feel like the humor of it lies in how unscary the fear actually was, how one tried to cover up their misdeeds in the most childish ways possible or overreacted when punished for it, and one's parents getting them to repeat the wrong word over and over again because they think its cute.

When little Beau was scared, he only had himself to rely on, or maybe even just his Venipede if he caught it that young. He also didn't have any parents to give him rules to break or silly punishments to carry out. How did he even learn to speak properly? Did he teach it to himself? It's probably not a very amusing story either. And I imagine that even if he had someone to teach him, they're not going to be like "haha this boy with no family said a word funny"

Considering that the first guy we help in the mainstory is aware of Corbeau's reputation (calling him the 'famous, fearless Corbeau) but not of his past might mean it's not exactly common knowledge that he was a homeless orphan?
