unfortunately i dont think its queerbaiting if the creator is just so terminally heterosexual that they never remotely considered the same gender relationship their show is centered around could be read as romantic. it is deeply painful however.
Maybe accidental queer baiting? The way someone may not mean to say something rude, but it may come off rude, so it's rude. Frustrating either way.
Not being a dick, just a friendly clarification.
By definition you can't accidentally queerbait. Queerbaiting is specifically using a same sex pair from the show to market the show to queer audiences with no intention of ever following through on a romantic relationship.
There is officially licensed Destiel merch signed off on by Kripke. Teen Wolf had a commercial with the actors for Derek and Stiles draped over each other talking about being "on a ship." Both shows actively used scenes between them as marketing while actively mocking fans for wanting them together. Sherlock has multiple characters refer to Johnlock as a couple, including characters we're supposed to believe are never wrong about human behavior and pushed those scenes in marketing. Then they acted insulted when fans saw them as a couple.
That's queerbaiting.
Done on accident it would just be queer subtext. Done because they had no other choice due to censorship is queer coding.
The specific meaning of the word is really starting to get lost and it's a pretty important one to keep accurate. It describes a very specific phenomenon that was done repeatedly and maliciously for decades and is meant to examine that specifically.
Doing it on accident sucks, but it isn't a tactic of capitalism intentionally intended to suppress queer representation while making money from queer fans.
Reblogging to keep the accurate definition and examples of queerbaiting circulating in the world

It never fails to amuse me when I get âhello influencerâ emails wanting me to push questionable products to my followers.
Like worstie, I can barely promote my own published book without wanting to curl up and die.
The fuck makes you think Iâll shill your discount wish shit?
Also, it's Tumblr. If I try to tell anyone about your knock-off Wish-quality sex toy thereâs going to be a horde of Autistic lesbians doing a power point presentation in the notes about safe sex toy material and correct battery storage.
Which I am 100% down for, but it will not get you any sales.
I was trying to figure out if you were someone important on a other platform, because there's no way in hell anyone actually thinks you can be classified as "Influencer" if you have a big Tumblr blog.
And then also think advertising to this mob would be a good idea
There are actually lots of people who sell stuff successfully on here, usually drop ship stuff.
Theyâre just not disclosing it as ads, which they are supposed to do, and instead it's marketed in a very Tumblr-esque way which can be summed up as âomg guys look how CUTE this isâ followed by a different account underneath going âomg found it!!â and it links to a drop ship site with the item(s).
And the link usually has an affiliate tracker in it, which you may or may not be able to spot unless youâre familiar with them, which is also something you are legally supposed to disclose.
I used to get a lot of offers from around 2016-2020 to sell âmoon lampsâ on here, yâknow those orb lights that look like a moon? Yeah. I was offered a higher kickback to make it look like I wasnt posting an add because these sellers know Tumblrites donât like ads.
They wanted it to look as organic and hyped up as possible and then Iâd just so happen to be like âomg you guys it's on saleâ and post a link. Which is skeevy as shit and also illegal af in the US.
Itâs like the insta/tiktok girlies saying âlink in bioâ to get around saying âhereâs a product I make money on if you buy itâ because they want to sound like your friend because people are more likely to impulse buy stuff if a âfriendâ is recommending something.
Theyâre also trusting that everyone knows âlink in bioâ means âaffiliate linkâ which is technically not enough of a disclosure but whatever.
This is why I tag all my own book promos with âaffiliate linksâ because depending on which storefront you buy Hunger Pangs from, I may get a kickback from the vender which I do to help mediate the fees I lose from distribution. Itâs not muchâliteral pennies in some casesâbut Iâm still legally required to state it.
Itâs also why when I do post products I use or like, I make a point of letting people know Iâm not an affiliate and not sponsored because despite the legal ramifications these people are flirting with by not disclosing their affiliate status, I want to be fully transparent with my followers when it comes to me trying to sell them things.
Yâall keep my lights on by reading my work and through my ko-fi and patreon. I am not about to risk that trust for the sake of some shitty vibrator sales from a sketch-ass drop shipper who wants me to pretend Iâm not selling you things.
So, yeah. People do successfully sell stuff on here. A lot of us small indie creators sell our own work all the time.
But there are also drop-ship sellers on here who get enough of a kick-back from affiliate links to make selling cutesy kitsch stuff worth their time on here. Theyâre just making sure you donât know youâre being marketed to.
Throwback to when I openly talked about this and got blocked by several huge âmemeâ blogs that were actually drop shippers who didnât like me lifting up the rock and exposing how they hide their ads in plain sight lol
Hey, Iâm going to hold your hand when I say this, but if you didnât realize these types of posts/blogs were ads⌠thatâs okay! They are designed to trick you!
These type of undeclared sellers are relying on you believing that Tumblr is different from other social media platforms where the advertising is usually more blatant. They are also relying on your trust in your community not to put undisclosed ads onto your dash.
After all, everyone knows Tumblr is a sinkhole where profit goes to die and everyone hates ads. Why would anyone waste time doing that here⌠unless they can adapt what theyâre doing to make you think youâre not being marketed to, because Tumblr as a user base would never allow that kind of thing. Right?
Turns out, not so much.
Some people might say, âwell thatâs just obvious! Youâd have to be really silly not to realize it!â
And maybe it was obvious to them.
I know it was obvious to me. But I also know I have enough online experience to play âspot the affiliate linkâ and enough knowledge as a indie author about how those links are supposed to be disclosed by law, to know when someone is being dishonest and trying to make a post seem organic and not like an ad.
But not everyone has the same knowledge or life experiences to put the context clues together, and thatâs why I wrote the above post because many, many, many people on here are unaware they are reblogging adsâusually while talking about how much they hate ads!
Youâre not dumb or silly or worthless or any of the unkind things some people are calling themselves in the notes. You just needed more information. Happily I was able to provide it and now you know what to look for. Go forth and scroll with newfound knowledge đŤĄ
I'm very glad to know I clocked these lol. The first one I remember is that ring that allegedly turns into a celestial map. I saw it CONSTANTLY. The first time I thought it was benign. The second I thought everyone I followed was fucking obsessed with the ring for some reason, and then after I got bombarded by it enough times I realized it was an undisclosed ad. And then suddenly I recognized them everywhere. The shark snuggie thing. The moon lamp. The cat piggy bank that grabs a coin with its paw. Those long cat pillows. They fly by because they are perfectly plausible tumblr posts! But once you've Seen it, you can't unsee it because the formula is the exact same every time.
Question! Are sex favourable Aces people who can't feel romantic attraction yet still like sex? I'm just curious as I'm an Ace and not the biggest fan of sex (Somewhere between neutral and repulsed) So I've been closer to that side of the ace community and want to know how the other side works. Sorry if this is a rude ask, I do not intend to alienate you guys in anyway. You go keep being yourselves!
LAST ANON, I MEANT SEX INDIFFERENT NOT NEUTRAL, MY BAD D:
No worries, I got your correction!
So whether an asexual can feel romantic attraction is pretty unrelated to them being asexual â that's aromantic, which is different.
Assuming you meant sexual attraction, however, yes and no.
See, asexual is an umbrella term as well as an individual identifier, the same way trans is (ie you can be binary trans or nonbinary and that's still under the umbrella term trans). So someone CAN be asexual and experience 0 sexual attraction ever but still enjoy and want sex for other reasons, but someone could also be demisexual, aceflux, grey asexual, or any of the other many acespec microlabels, and they identify with the asexual umbrella but still experience some degree of sexual attraction, and also enjoy and want sex for reasons either for related or unrelated to their experience of attraction.
For me personally, my experience of my ace-ness is so nebulous and difficult to pin down that I simply choose not to put a microlabel to it. Not because I'm against microlabels, but because I have no personal desire to sit and hyperanalyze my feelings and sift through the many labels to find the one that most closely fits. I'm perfectly happy leaving it at "I'm somewhere on the asexual spectrum, and I like sex".
Basically you don't have to be sexually attracted to someone to want to have sex, either at all or with them specifically. If you're romantically attracted to your partner and sex is fun and feels good, then maybe you want to have sex with your partner. I know an asexual who experiences zero sexual attraction but enjoys BDSM for the fun of it and because it feels good, and they used to do it for work. On the other hand, I *am* an asexual who experiences sexual attraction under the right conditions, and I enjoy it with my partner exclusively and have never been comfortable with hook ups/one night stands/etc for myself.
This has gotten a bit rambly, but basically there are as many ways to want or enjoy sex as there are experiences with sexual attraction, and those two things aren't inherently connected or mutually exclusive.

I think we should figure out what age weâre living in now so we can say how itâs collapsing to each other
Our age of plastics is collapsing
Our age of information is collapsing! *remembers generative AI, nods to self* our age of information is collapsing.

PSA: plastic hummingbird feeders in hot weather should be emptied and cleaned daily or every other day to prevent mold and disease. If you can't commit to that, plant scarlet runner beans (Phaseolus coccineus) instead. It's very fun to watch them climb, will give that rustic vine-covered look on whatever you let them scale, and the legumes are edible.
no offense but you guys need to learn the difference between someone implying their experience is universal and a post simply just not being about you
