Just a broken soul

Death has stared at me time and time again. But I still endure.

I've had highs and lows. Like everyone else.

And at the dawn of a new year, I rise with the wisdom of lonely winters.

Life is but a cycle of disappointments and woes. Interrupted only by little moments of joy.

The sun will shine again tomorrow. I'll still be here.

That the line between light and dark is dimmer to old eyes.

For the people who lived in the past, who live now, am I the same?

The past is a mirror to the future.

Or so a friend once said to me...

I did not believe it then. I do now.

I am not. And I am.

I'm not beyond emotional response or compassion. But I possess, and my masters count it as perhaps a paramount virtue, a singular force of will. Throughout my life it has served me well, to draw this facility and steel myself, unflinching at all that this wretched galaxy can throw at me.

You can't die. You'll keep suffering until the universe collapses on itself erasing everything but you.
