"Now they have the power to destroy you, but they won't. This is what love is." - Welcome to Night Vale
I hate love. It's so scary and messy and vulnerable and cruel and worthwhile. It asks for too much and gives too little. It gives too much and takes so little.

I absolutely adore how they (Jacob, Hudson, Connor, etc.) were all able to bring the book to life so beautifully. I watch edits like this and they make me emotional because it shows how much love and care went into this one piece of media. I love that none of them belittled the source material and none of them belittled what they created. I love that they poured their love into this. And in turn their love has captivated and continue to captivate millions of us around the world.
two covers done and typesetted (PROPERLY I HOPE)
I want to break this moment within this scene down. I've watched this same scene so many times and I usually am a little frustrated with Shane here. I want him so badly to have immediately reassured Ilya that he loved him too. But that's not what Shane does in the show or in the book.
At this point in the book, both Shane and Ilya have individually recognized months earlier that they love each other. And despite knowing his own feelings, I do not think Shane would have EVER been the first one to say "I love you." I don't think Shane felt secure about Ilya's feelings. One because Shane is autistic and not great at picking up the obvious signs Ilya was showing him. And two because Ilya kept bringing up other women or Svetlana in their most intimate moments. This is why the tuna melt scene played out the way that it did. But also why, "I don't ever want that problem to ever go away," was a moment of assurance to Shane. He had enough assurance that he planed the next 20 years of his and Ilya's life together.
But assurance is not love and while Shane is acutely aware of the fact that he is in love with Ilya, I don't think Shane thinks Ilya loves him back. (As an outsider this is so ridiculous because the two of them are so OBVIOUSLY in love with each other. Sigh.) At this point in the story, I think that Shane is ready to get as much or as little of Ilya as Ilya is willing to give him. So Ilya's "I love you," comes as a genuine surprise to Shane. And the famous, "Holy shit," line comes out against his very own wishes. He then says, "I love you too," and all is right in the world.
Now the thing I do love about Shane is that if you tell him something he will take it at face value. So as soon as Ilya told Shane that he loved him, Shane accepted that as the truth. Ilya's love for Shane becomes a foundational truth in their relationship because Ilya said so. Even in the Long Game, Shane takes Ilya's love as a given. There were other things they had to figure out, but the fact that they loved each other was not something that Shane ever doubted after this moment.

Ya tebya lyublyu — I love you, too. art by @ananasbiscvit
“shane and ilya’s wedding song was diamonds by rihanna” uh im pretty sure it was the moana soundtrack? as evidenced by these book screenshots my sister sent me:
One of the reasons why I can never be too mad at Hayden for accidentally outing them is because of Hayden's children. This moment specifically, is such a heartwarming moment. Thank you for depicting it so well with your talent. The real wedding of Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov.
I can’t help falling in love with you
This is brilliant.
The fact that this progression takes them 10 years to get to this stage emotionally is incredible. I was fully along for the ride. It was frustrating, exhilarating, sad, happy, and overwhelming. It was a great slow burn!!

The Voyagers did Shane so dirty. He was their captain. He joined the team and helped them get their first Stanley Cup in years. They were his team, his people, his friends. And they turned their backs on him so quickly. His number should have been retired and his jersey hung up in their rafters. Instead he got betrayed and defamed by his very own team.
I hated this for Shane. As someone who had only seen the good and positive sides of hockey, he was send crashing. There are the many moments when I wish Rachel Reid would have explored more from Shane's perspective and given his reaction and grief room to breathe and be explored.
The way Shane's biggest fears materialized in real time and in worse ways than he had even imagined. He spent all of the Long Game so tense and scared about his relationship with Ilya being discovered because he was afraid of these very same repercussions. And then they were outed like that and Shane faced the brunt of the consequences. And none of this really gets explored in TLG. Some of the most devastating things to happen to Shane occurred off scree in the book. They get a one paragraph exploration and explanation and then we move on to the next thing. I was left with so many questions.
But maybe those are the things that will be explored in the next book. I really hope that we get more for Shane.
i spent 4 days on this please take it from me
One of my favorite scenes in the show. They're finally opening up to each other. Finally moving forward from situationship to relationship.

the best shane edit i’ve seen yet
As a serious Shane lover, I love edits like these. Please insert it into my veins!!!
Seriously though, he is so precious. A top jock, autistic, obliviously at times, lover boy, can be an asshole, has a performance diet that deeply resembles an eating disorder, ginger ale lover, socially awkward, great son, 3 times Stanley Cup winner, and hockey god. He most importantly is deeply enamored with Ilya Rozanov.
I want all the best things for Shane. I want him to be happy and loved.
