Fourth Man is a Manchester-based multi-instrumentalist. Now, if you’re imagining a one-man band with a bass drum, kazoo, banjo, and mini cymbals between his knees you’d be wrong (at least from what we’ve seen thus far). This multi-instrumentalist is more of the alt-pop, sonic synth riff genre and he’s been on repeat at SGTMT HQ this week.

Strange Interiors features as a double A-side (we’re thrilled that they’d have the audacity to make such an analogue claim in a digital world) on Lake Ruth’s new Extended Leave EP.

The 5 best Pulp songs

We’ve been listening to Pulp recently at SGTMT HQ. 

We must admit, we missed Pulp the first time around. ‘Common People’ had become the cliche anthem of Britpop and made them easy to dismiss alongside Chumbawamba, Dodgy and other mid/late 90s forgettable favourites. 

However, they have an eclectic back-catalogue with a smattering of hidden gems. He’s our Top 5:

This is Hardcore 

Recently SGTMT luminaire Tom suggested on the Twitter that ‘This Is Hardcore’ is the best Pulp song. He may well be right. 

Do You Remember The First Time? 

From the album His N Hers. Sadly we can’t recall the first time we heard this song.

Like A Friend 

A rare non-album song from Pulp which features on the Great Expectations Soundtrack. Listening to this again, we’re pretty sure Tom is wrong. This is the best.

The Fear 

The opening track from This Is Hardcore eschews the unfortunate portrayal of Pulp as the ‘chippy pop’ merchants of Common People and Disco 2000. This is the real Pulp - hauntingly beautiful, vulnerable and at times uncomfortable.

Dogleg are from Michigan and are signed to Triple Crown Records. 

Fox is the first release from their up and coming album Melee. We like it.
