He closed his eyes, and let out a small sigh, before stepping into the light for the other man to see. He wasn’t sure he wanted to see the man’s initial reaction, and as such, he kept his eyes closed, his ears standing less erect than normal.

        As the Professor was allowed to see the gentleman, he watched closely, yet nothing about his gaze shouted out disgust or horror. Stepping closer to him, the mutant bowed his head towards him, appreciating that it wasn’t so easy for the other. This wasn’t an uncommon concern, some mutations could be called invisible, telepathy, telekineses, abilities that did not render the mutant visually different. But there were others, the likes of Nightcrawler and Beast who’s mutations were more difficult not to notice. But he didn’t walk away, nor did he feel deterred to speak to the chap, even holding out his hand towards him. “Professor Charles Xavier.”

When he sensed that the other man was remaining calm, calmer even than April O'Neil or Casey Jones had done upon first meeting him, a smile lit up his face, and he opened his eyes to look at the other. He reached his hand out to Charles, accepting the American greeting custom by shaking his hand. "Hamato Yoshi. You may call me Master Splinter, or simply Splinter."

"In this case, you find wrong. My sons and I are very much active in controlling the criminal element of this city." His ears perked up, however, at the mention of unpleasant neighbors. Clearly there was another present he hadn’t sensed. How she’d sensed it first was something he would have to ponder later, for now, he had to keep himself alert. “These sewers are the only home acceptable to one who looks as I do. There is nowhere on the surface for a freak such as myself.”

Faith could only guess that perhaps he was some sort of demon, perhaps a harmless one. Faith laughed light in a humorless manner, “Yeah, people are assholes, so damned worried concerned when somethin’ looks different but what’s killin’ ‘em looks just like they do,” The best predators look like their prey, “Well, You don’t harm anyone, then it’s not really my business I’m just doin’ some pest control…” 

"I appreciate your understanding, Miss," Splinter responded in a level tone. "I do have one question, however. I pride myself on being a master of the shadows, of being undetectable. How is it you could sense my presence anyway?"

The last bit did little to ease his mind, but he supposed there was nothing to be done about it. He would simply have to remember to keep his guard up when around this particular girl. His tail suddenly swayed from one side to the other, as sometimes happened when he was nervous.

"You can’t expect perfection in three forceful weeks…" Anna stopped speaking a moment noting his uneasiness. " I’m not going to prove your mind, but your emotions are quite loud. "

"If you had been through what I have been through, you would wonder how they are only loud on the inside."

His eyes went wide and he let out a gasp at the sound of the other man’s voice inside his head. Instinctively, he settled back further into the shadows, knowing well that it would do him no good against someone who could speak telepathically. 'Please, I am not what you might expect. Everyone is always afraid of me. Rats are vile things, after all,' he responded, not sure if the other would be looking out for a mental response. He’d never really been sure about how telepathy worked.

        Lowering his hand back down by his side, Charles stood, waiting in silence for a moment as his senses reached out, pin pointing the male’s whereabouts. And so, he followed, his light steps sounding gently in his wake. “That is a matter of perspective, my friend.” His voice finally sounded, the english tone lining his open minded words. “I am not a man to judge by appearances. They can be rather misleading after all. Please, I certainly mean you no harm.”

"You are aware that I was born a man, yes? I would much prefer the word animal did not precede my humanity.”

Master Splinter sighed. It was probably about the best he could expect from Casey. "It is fine. You mean well."

"Hello?" But Toby did, though he seemed more curious than afraid. And then Litwick popped out of his backpack. "Lit?" "… I’d suggest you stay in there for now kid."

His tail twitched, briefly crossing through the light, giving away his location. "Please, I am not what you expect."

He raised one eyebrow, looking at Casey with a curious expression.  ”That is precisely what I am, Mister Jones.” He couldn’t help but smile.

Casey glowered, embarrassed at his awful habit of speaking before thinking. "Well— it’s hard to remember sometimes, okay!? Not like every day I meet mutant animal people that know martial arts or nothin’." He frowned. "I mean, not that it ain’t cool, but rats freak me out enough with their normal sneaky-skills, y’know?”

"You are aware that I was born a man, yes? I would much prefer the word animal did not precede my humanity."

        The mutant walked with his head slightly dipped, his hands in his pockets. It wasn’t unusual for him to take a wander. Part of him still marvelled at having the use of his legs at all. But on his way, there was a presence following him, he could sense him. Stopping on the spot, the Professor lifted his hand, pressing it lightly against the side of his head — it was then that he reached out to his follower’s mind. 'You may find I am rather more open minded than you might believe, my friend.'
