Not to sound like a broken record but does it make anyone else viscerally angry how we realized in the very recent past that we can successfully eradicate devastating human-specific diseases (smallpox) yet now there's a million people telling you not to vaccinate your kids against measles. I know I know "everyone will not just" but also for real we could never have measles again if everyone would just be cool

this is going around again and the tags are full of people talking about printing it out to put in their breakroom or cubicle or sending it to their coworkers, which fills me with great joy. vast diversity of professions represented also. zoos. labs. summer camps. restaurants. garden centers. libraries. schools. many reports from the brave warriors of assorted retail. a truth universally acknowledged: if there is a sign a customer will not read it <3 and they don't read emails either <3

Unpopular opinion: DEI is meritocracy. DEI is a corrective on the natural tendency to nepotism and racial and gender bias, and I don't understand why non-conservatives are so afraid of just saying so

Like why did we ever accept this framing of "affirmative action" as being for redress of historical injustices, rather than as a corrective for present injustices? It is an empirically demonstrable fact that racial bias in hiring exists; why do we have to pretend that this is about compensation for slavery or whatever? Are we just afraid of hurting people's feelings by suggesting that they might be racist?

learn to associate cleaning with pride instead of shame and your quality of life will improve in ways you can't even imagine btw

like I'm sympathetic, it's hard work, it takes some degree of mental organisation and physical capacity that is not equally accessible to every human being on earth. I know. but regardless of how much you can do and how often, you will get better results across the board if you can frame it as positive effort towards a better situation instead of perpetually self flagellating for having the sin of being a solid thing in physical space that steadily accumulates dirt no matter what just like everything else on earth
