Read right to left
1: Went out with a friend I hadn’t seen in months. She’d attempted suicide by overdose a month earlier than I. She takes me to a cemetery and says, this is the exact spot where I want to be buried. I take a photo of her by that spot.
2: She says, I want them to bury me in the summer in beautiful white linens and I want everyone else to be in white linens. She measures out her height in three big steps to see if she would fit in the gap between two graves.
3: She wouldn’t. She decides they could bury her sitting or standing instead. She says, I think you feel the pull towards death still because you haven’t seen blood on the pavement.

My friend who overdosed in the spot where she said she wanted to be buried
I call her Mary
You’ve seen Mary.
I have a friend who’s a boy but wants to be a girl. I call her Mary. She likes the name Mary. She doesn’t mind me calling her it, though it takes her a while to respond to it.
Mary shows me her medical documents once. How they describe it is F sixty-four point nine. Unspecified gender identity disorder. The doctor’s notes say: patient is not tall, of a slim build (that’s one way to say it; you can see the bones of her knees and elbows), fairly androgynous looking. Dislikes his face, height, voice, hairiness. Claims to have started feeling this way at age 6. Claims he used to go to bed hoping to wake as a girl starting at age 8.
We’re strolling in a park. As we step over a puddle — or I step over it and she puts her foot directly in it — she tells me two things: she says, there were two old guys on the bus loudly debating whether she was... agirloraboy. The second thing she says is: I remember my younger cousin being attacked by a dog when I was four. It’s easier for her to describe how his face looked enveloped in the dog’s jaws than it is for her to say the word boy.
I’d asked her how tall she was the week prior. She pauses long enough for me to notice and says she doesn’t know exactly, then comes up with a number. She says a number and then says, every time I come back home, my relatives keep assuring me I’ve grown a little taller. She says it with a nervous smile on her face, like she’s worried they might be right. They keep saying I’ve grown a little taller, but I haven’t grown any taller since the ninth grade.

Life update: tried offing myself again 6 days ago and am hospitalized again. My psychiatrist’s advice to me so far has been to laugh and play more. My heehee hoohoo say uncle ass psychiatrist
Went out with a friend I hadn’t seen or talked to in four months yesterday. She’d attempted suicide by overdose a month earlier than I. She takes me to a graveyard and says, this is where I would like to be buried. She says, I want my funeral to be in the summer and I want everyone to wear beautiful white linens and I also want to be buried in white linens. She says, this is the exact spot I want to be buried. I take a photo of her by that spot. She says, I think you feel the pull towards death still because you haven’t seen in yet. You haven’t seen blood on the pavement. We don’t call it when I tried to kill myself or when I attempted suicide. We say, when did you die? I died May 9th. Ah, I died June 6th. I tell her I’ll be celebrating my birthday for the first time in maybe 12 years in August, several months after my real birthday. A rebirth, I say
