She snagged it from him eagerly. She ignored his frown of concern, âI donât trust people.â She said simply, âEspecially not other bad guys, besides have you even asked your roomies if they want another mouth to feed? Hate to break it to you, but you donât exactly look like people with money to spare.â She mocked, harsh words in an attempt to distance herself.Â
As he offered her yet again a place to stay and a meal she laughed in disbelief. Her mouth opening with a snarky response, head turning to look down the street before her mouth slowly closed. âFuck.â The one word conveyed a string of emotions, but fear was on the top of it.
Her eyes watched as the black SUV crept closer alon the street. âYou know what, that sounds good. Iâll stay here. Letâs go inside, like right now.â She encouraged words coming out in a rush as she ushered the red head closer towards the door.
Wally rolled his eyes when she attempted to seem harsh. âTheyâll learn to live with it. Especially if you can bring in some money of your own.â All the adults had to earn their keep, and the teens would try to bring in whatever they can. Wally wasnât sure how much money she got from picking pockets but it was probably enough to buy some food.
He raised an eyebrow at her reaction to seeing the SUV. He was immediately alert and stepped to the side to let her in. He remembered when he had to hide from CPS. He knew her situation was far more serious, but it still reminded him of that point in his life. âCâmon, hurry up.â He mumbled, closing the door when she was inside. âMost of our windows covered so donât worry about them peeking through them,â he said, pausing before speaking again, âdâyou wanna tell me who was in the SUV?â
