Ottis Toole and Henry Lee Lucas were male team killers. They were geographically transient, and were hedonistic killers. Toole was homosexual, a pyromanic, and a transvestite. His lover and friend, Lucas, was bisexual and a sexual sadist. They confessed to more than 600 killings. Both were given death sentences, Toole in Florida and Lucas in Texas. Both sentences were commuted to life and both died in prison of natural causes.
Part of the last conversation between Ottis Toole and Henry Lee Lucas after Ottis Toole was implicated in many of the joint murders:
Henry: âI donât want you to think Iâm doing this as a revenge.â Ottis: âNo, I donât want you to hold anything back about me.â Henry: âSee we got so many of them, Ottis. We got to turn up the bodies. Now this boy and girl I donât know anything about.â Ottis: âWell maybe thatâs the two I killed my own self. Just like that Mexican that wasnât gonna let me out of the house. I took an axe and chopped him all up. What made me? I been meaning to ask you? Whyâd I do it? Henry: â I think it was just the hands doing it. I know a lot of the things we have done in human sight are impossible to believe.â
