NEW HAIR ALERT! I WENT PURPLE🦄💜💜💜🦄🦄👾☂️👩🏽🎤
Someone asked me a while ago if I still had a photo of the worst sink I had ever seen while apartment hunting in Los Angeles. I assumed I deleted it so I didn't answer the ask and now it's gone, but as it turns out, yes, I do still have a photo of it.
impressive! it's ugly, impractical, gets water everywhere, makes too much noise, and the quote with shit kerning says you don't think music is even real
Imagining toothpaste accumulating in the letters
Imagine mould growing under the plate and having to disassemble the sink to clean it

Listing fabric prices by the half metre is bad and shameful and I hate that so many online stores do it. Listing it by the quarter metre is even more bad and shameful.
@tarzamsteroftheayeaye replied to your post:
The quarter metre! What nonsense is that!
I know! Shocking! I came across it here a while ago when I was looking for glazed cotton. (I clicked every single link on this big list of Canadian online fabric stores and this was the only glazed cotton I found.)
You can SELL fabric in smaller increments without LISTING that price as if it's the price per metre!! Grrrr!!!!
Oh my god I just found an even worse one
WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT?????!?!!!??
just. fuckingn. let people type decimals in the quantity thingy. go to Hell.
Ah, now this? This is good. Today I'm looking at cotton twills and I've seen SO MANY listed by the half metre, but this one is doing it correctly!
Clearly listed by the metre! Decimals in the quantity thingy! Good!!
I'm still not over seeing "Buy exactly the right amount! My fabrics are sold in multiples of 10 cm." and "Order of 50 cm minimum." in the same description. what is wrong with you.
#i found one the other day that was listed with what i thought was a reasonable per metre cost so i thought no more of it until i clicked it#then saw it was listed in 20cm increments??? like you couldnt actually buy half a metre it had to be 40 or 60cm #and the note that said this was the smallest text on the page so they 100% were trying to scam people
Yikes!
I've seen a couple people say it's probably because of website templates not designed for this sort of sale, but I don't think that's an acceptable excuse, it doesn't prevent them from writing the price per metre in the title of the listing right after the name of the fabric. Sure you can have the increments on the number thing be smaller, but there's absolutely no reason to keep the full price hidden as a sneaky math surprise.
Burnley & Trowbridge does exactly that.
Now THIS!
THIS is excellent! I hate it when sites based in Metric countries sell things by the yard, but having both options with fair pricing is genius!
hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???
i am yelling this at myself right now i am going through An Experience (trying to get into a routine of body maintenance again for my physical and mental health)
oh, Sisyphus! i got you

fic snippet: BAMF!Roy shoots out all the streetlights so Jason can escape
—
Roy pulled his bow over his shoulder, three arrows between his fingers. He glanced at Jason out of the corner of his eye, like he was making sure he was still there.
“Run. I’ll cover you.”
“And how exactly are you going to do that?” Jason asked, mocking him just to see Roy flinch. “There’s twenty fucking alphas out there. They’ll see me right away. I was going to jump in the--”
“Trust me.”
Jason turned, astonished. “Trust you?”
“Trust me,” Roy repeated calmly. His sharp eyes -- a hunter’s eyes, just like Dan’s -- were focused on the men sprinting their way. “When I say go, you run. Make sure your eyes are closed at thirty seconds.”
Make sure my eyes are closed? Jason thought. Okay, Robin Hood. You sound confident. Why the fuck not.
Uneasy, Jason stepped closer to Roy, using him as cover. It was only when Roy drew the bow, the three arrows perfectly balanced between his fingers, that Jason saw the growing patch of blood in his side.
“You’re fucking shot and you’re telling me to run?” Jason asked breathlessly.
Roy didn’t reply. His bow was sighted higher now -- away from the armed men. Which was entirely unhelpful.
Fuck this, Jason thought, I’m going for the river.
“Run,” Roy said softly. Jason shuddered anyway, feeling the whisper of an alpha command, yet determined not to give in.
“No.”
“Run.”
The command snapped through his body, and Jason was running before he could think about what he was doing. An arrow whistled through the air, shattering one of the floodlights on the warehouse’s roof.
Jason looked back just in time to see Roy fire another arrow, then another, hitting a pair of headlights on a car someone had started. Faster than he could count, the arrows kept coming, arcing over his head and splitting between the alphas like they were inconsequential.
He’s trying to blind them, Jason thought, suddenly appreciative of the cover. But they’re alphas. They’ll still see him.
The lot plunged into darkness, every single source of light -- including a phone being used as a flashlight -- had been shattered. And Roy was still firing, somehow. Covering him, just like he’d promised.
Just like Jason had guessed, the alphas could still see in the dark. They converged on Roy’s position, seconds away from making contact.
He tried to remember Roy’s warning.
Thirty seconds. Close your eyes.
There were two seconds left. Jason paused under a now-nonfunctional streetlight, covering his eyes with a hand and peeking out warily between two fingers.
A lone arrow flew through the air, wider and heavier than the others. There was something attached to it, almost like a --
Flashbang, Jason recognized in that split second. He clapped his hands over his ears, because hearing loss was a bitch, and he was more than far enough away for a flashbang to burn his eyes.
The flashbang that went off was more like a nuclear weapon than a simple stunning tool. It lit up the whole sky, so bright, Jason could see the outline of Metropolis’ buildings far across the Bay. As it expanded, the explosion turned the typical white of a flashbang, then orange, and then -- a split second at the very end -- a deep, unsettling blue.
Jason flinched away just in time for the sound wave to hit him. Even far away, it almost blew him off his feet. It knocked around his already mushy brain in his less than happy skull.
After a dizzying few seconds, the light died down. Jason closed his eyes, finding the afterimages of the explosion burned into the back of his eyelids.
The lot was suspiciously quiet. If he squinted, he could see a few alphas down on the ground and not moving. Several alphas. Almost all of the alphas, he realized.
He could have taken out a whole army of alphas with that, Jason thought, trying to blink away his astonishment. Smart alpha.
Roy had disappeared into the night, and hopefully had before the flashbang had gone off near his heightened senses. Jason could still feel his fingers around the back of his neck, squeezing tight.
Run.
ZUKO AVATAR AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER (2026)
It’s always my favorite character
why be radically exclusionary abt queerness when you could be radically inclusionary instead. let's inflate the numbers. let's become the majority. the sky's the limit
"we can't let just ANYONE call themselves queer!!" what are you talking about. I'm steepling my fingers and gleefully cackling every time we Get Another One and you should be too. lock in.
Fuck yeah, let's make this little raft we're surviving on big as hell. If I bring my bit of driftwood and you bring yours and we let as many people join in as want to, we might end up with a functional boat.
I heard someone say 'queer is that which accepts queerness' a few weeks ago and I've been thinking about it ever since.
Back when I was active on AVEN (I have no idea what it's like now), we had two definitions of asexual -- an external definition and an internal definition. The external definition, the one that's on the wiki and the press material and that everyone uses when talking about asexuality, was of course "an asexual is someone who does not experience sexual attraction". The internal definition, the one we kept in mind when talking to each other, was "an asexual is someone who calls themself asexual".
The reason for this was very simple and very practical. In the very early AVEN and immediately pre-AVEN days, back before my time when the disparate ace communities were first finding each other and creating a public online network, there was a fair lot of exclusionist discourse. There are a lot of ways to be asexual, and the early community of course fell prey to the usual infighting about whether someone with a libido counts as asexual, whether someone who chooses to have sex can be asexual (usual tiring Purity Brigade Bullshit), whether someone without a libido counts as asexual (after all, if you have no sex drive, are you sure it's a matter of sexual orientation?), whether ace people count as lgbtq, all the usual nonsense. This worked out the way it pretty much always does -- the inclusionists "win", because exclusionists always break off into smaller and smaller communities so the largest group is, of course, the one where all different kinds of people stick together and welcome each other. And that was AVEN.
And when you're trying to have a strong community and somebody shows up at the gates saying, "hi, I think I'm asexual", it's a fucking horrible idea to start doubting their credentials. They saw the public definition and started calling themselves asexual; they're here, and now they're under the internal definition. An asexual is somebody who calls themself asexual. Sometimes, these people would be frustrated allosexuals, or people choosing to swear off sex, who might not fit the external definition of the term. We made sure that everyone knew the external definition, and there were always conversations about asexuality and how it affected our lives, if they asked us directly what we thought then we'd say "only you can know for sure" and then give our thoughts on the matter for as long as they asked for them, and other than that it wasn't anyone else's fucking business or anyone's place to judge. If people weren't nasty and didn't create problems, they could stay and call themselves whatever they wanted.
Many of these people who didn't fit the strict definition eventually left after receiving support and discovering more about themselves. Some stopped IDing as ace but became allies to the community. Some people who came in with the most "I'm a heterosexual girl who is angry at my boyfriend" intro posts you've ever seen in your life discovered that they were in fact ace and that the messages that society had taught them about sex and romance were simply not for them -- these are people who, in a gatekept community, would have been incorrectly ousted immediately.
And then there were people -- a LOT of people -- who found themselves in grey areas. People who said "okay, this community makes sense to me and is useful to me and I have so much in common with a lot of you, but not EXACTLY like you. However, what I experience may not be the strict default definition but it's an awful lot like these other members on the forum." And they formed sub-communities. The grey aces. The demisexuals. The aromantics and greyromantics. Through these dialogues, between subgroups who in a more exclusionary community would be arguing about who the "real" asexuals are and splintering off into their own communities away from all those stupid cishet fakers, we developed language to describe our similarities and differences. The sexual/romantic/aesthetic attraction model came out of these dialogues and it became so massively important to our understanding of asexuality that basically everyone in the ace/aro community describes themselves by it, as do a large number of people outside the community. The community made massive leaps ahead in just a decade or two by, well, being a community. By being a place where anybody who called the place home, and didn't bully other people in the home, was right. By being somewhere where anybody who saw "asexual: someone who doesn't experience sexual attraction" and thought "that sounds like a term with some use for me" was allowed to use it.
An asexual is somebody who does not experience sexual attraction.
An asexual is somebody who calls themselves asexual.
These definitions are not in conflict -- they are both, in concert, fundamentally necessary for a safe and vibrant community where we can protect, support, and learn about each other and ourselves.
And that is absolutely not exclusive to asexual communities.
