When playing through Rebirth, and they first removed the mystery of the murders at the Gold Saucer by having it obviously be Dyne, I was a bit bummed but nothing big. Then we got to see Dyne being totally out of it when Barret came to save him, which was awesome.

But, in the duel, when Dyne used his new supernatural metal abilities, I felt like it took away from how human/personal that situation was by adding the magical aspect. It was a fair fight before, just two men, gun-arms, and their guilt. But when Dyne transforms, it's like he's just another monster to fight.

Then, to compound the growing distaste I was feeling even further. You get Dio and the whole buggy segment immediately. It squandered time that we could be using to sit with this emotional moment with Barret. You even see Dyne's body in the background in some shots while Dio flexes.
