The thing is i dont care that we didnt get a lot of DM because it wasnt their season yet, i care that the DM we got was subpar quality, like there was more tension and intrigue in season 1 and 2 than there was in season 3 and we got a whole ass love confession and companion confirmation in season 3, but it felt so hollow and nonsensical based on where we left them at the end of season 2, like i honestly didnt want a lot of DM this season because its not their time so giving us a love confession when we didnt even get a real conversation about what was going on between them in season 2 was just Not what i wanted
I totally see this and I totally agree. I do think though, that we're going to get all DM-related blanks filled in S4, given the structure of QotD.
(For anyone who isn't aware, the first half of QotD is a rewind. A sort of "here's what everyone was doing while Lestat was busy becoming a rock star", and that is where the DM chapter falls)
HOWEVER (and here's where the whole "I can hold two beliefs at once" thing comes in) I don't necessarily think this was a good decision. In fact, pacing wise, I think it was a terrible decision.
I'm sure they thought they were doing something incredibly clever by breadcrumbing DM, and leaving us salivating and wanting more, and planning to reveal it all later and make it make sense, but I just don't think it worked. At best it frustrated fans, and at worst, it straight-up confused the shit out of normies.
All the momentum we developed with them in S1 and S2 felt like it dropped off, there is a staggering number of unanswered questions pertaining to them, and the biggest of all, the literal cliffhanger of S2 continues to go unresolved for another TWO YEARS, which is BONKERS to me.
This is why my feelings about TVL DM are so scattered. Because I do still very much believe that they'll stick the landing in QotD. And I think that once we have QotD to immediately chase TVL with, then rewatches of TVL won't be so frustrating (in the context of DM anyway). But I do think they could have (and probably should have) done certain things differently.
I also have to wonder if I'd be quite as frustrated if I wasn't so deeply entrenched in fandom. Like if I were just a normie, tuning in every two years, then maybe I would be fine with it. Because personally, the thing I find the most frustrating about it all is having to sit with another two years of fandom nonsense while we wait.
