since grace has an unlimited supply of media from earth (literally all of it from the time the hail mary launched), he would listen to music a lot
and the first time he played music on erid, rocky was SO confused, because he thought humans didn’t know eridian?? and now grace is playing SOMETHING with both eridian AND human language and it sounds so chaotic and none of it makes any sense
and grace is confused for a moment, then he realizes, of COURSE, the instruments in the songs are playing chords, and some of those chords are words in eridian, and if he focuses on it, he can pick out the words
grace starts cracking up and rocky is still confused because grace hasn’t explained it yet but when he does rocky calls humans stupid
this made me wonder if when grace tries to listen to music again, will he then focus on how the instrumental is just gibberish in eridian? or just a mash of words and phrases thst sometimes clash and sometimes match? i wonder if like. he came home to earth with the eridian knowledge and studies he has, and somehow either composes a peice or collaborates with someone composing a peice where the human vocals and eridian vocals (instrumental) match, with maybe like. some parts human-centric (instrumentals are softer, spaced out, slower eridian words that arent composed as sentences, while the human vocals are the stronger, main focus) and other parts eridian-centric (more of an instrumental part, with eother humming or soft spoken words in human vocal over what is phrases and lyrics in eridian)
it woukd be so beautiful ebcause instead of it being thst ckmmon language blend that we have now (for example english and spanish) it would be a blend of languages from two completely different species, and they would mix together so well for us because eridian speech (eridianese as grace so grace(haha)fully put it in the book) is the substitute for the instrumental. like a calming whale song mixed with english or another lsnguahe.
