good grief / i've been reaping what i sow

         “You dumped him after that, didn’t you?” Not really a display of her friend’s character, but her own to be honest. There’s just something dealb-reaking about consuming fermented drinks that she just wants absolutely no part of, none at all. “If you didn’t, you’re more of a trooper than I thought. I mean, or you just like to see the good in people.”

   despite only being friends with a small pool of people, he’s surprised when the person outside his house turns out to be Britta instead of his best friend. one could make quite a compelling movie with the mischief they seem to get into. “we’re not in a movie,” he calls into the night air, eyes glistening with mirth.

    a grin snatches her features, unexpected and bright. their recently rekindled friendship leaves her insides feeling warm with genuine joy every time they spend time with each other, whether they’re studying together at her house, or taking turns riding together to school, or even just sitting at an empty table at lunch in comfortable silence. they’re an odd pair, she’s often supposed, but they complement each other well.

     Harper’s eyebrows furrow as the red head speaks, and almost instantly she sizes up the woman’s unwanted companion. If there was one thing she couldn’t stand, it was men not getting the message that they weren’t welcome. She runs her fingers along the rim of her glass, adjusting her posture in order to seem more comfortable.

          “Hey! I didn’t think you’d make it. Your hair               looks amazing!”

    “thanks!”

    she hates the way the word screeches out of her---squealing tires---but britta’s subpar acting will have to do. the wine’s a dry red that leaves a sour burn in the back of her throat, but she keeps sipping anyway---anything to keep her mind off the onion dip in the man’s beard and his appraising eyes. she doesn’t want to be bought.
