Just interesting analysis of Natās relationship with religion pre crash iāve been thinking about
Iāve always personally assumed it was at least partially canon Nat was raised religious, what with the whole Natalie āsomething Catholicā Scatorccio thing as well as her mother holding her funeral in a church, though this is not exactly confirmed. We can definitely say nat as we first see her is not a religious person at least not in a Christian sense just based on her along with the rest of the teamās disparagement of Laura Leeās faith. Particularly I noted that after Allieās leg was broken and they were all in the locker room later, Laura Lee tries to say that God always has a plan and Natalie slams her locker and storms out
However, despite this obvious lack of a religion or a belief in a God, Natalie does something thatās very interesting and that i resonate with as someone who was raised religious. Natalie, in her darkest moments, turns to religion as a crutch
This is seen most obviously when she tells Travis that āthe wilderness choseā after Javiās death, despite the fact that up until and continuing after that that she had been staunchly against the wilderness religion (though i do think she believes something is out there)
But she also has another separate tell thatās even more interesting. When the plane is going down in the first episode, she says āplease, Godā. And then again when sheās trying to get help with the SAT phone, she says the same thing, āplease, Godā. Which is something i personally do and i know a lot of ex church members still do, turning to God when thereās nothing else you can humanly do about a bad situation.
I dunno, it was really interesting to me and i think it definitely ties into her relationship with the wilderness religion throughout the show!
