After the Oppositio Senshi kidnapped the Sailor Senshi, Usagi has to go try to find her friends, of course. Â When she stumbles across Ami, thereâs a youma watching over her, saying DONâT INTERFERE WITH HER DREAMS!!!, which we then get a peek at.
Itâs fairly obvious that of course Ami wants to be a doctor, so her dream is of her future where sheâs helping to heal a sick child, and itâs just incredibly sweet all the way around. Â I would have found it adorable just for that!
But I found the telephone ringing and Amiâs conversation with the other person even more interesting, because it shows that part of her dream for her future is having a close relationship with her spouse. Â Itâs their anniversary, so of course sheâs going to be home early! Â Part of her fantasy is that phone call, showing that her spouse is just as eager for their anniversary together as she is.
And that fits very much with how I see Ami.  She wants to balance her career and her sense of home life.  I love that sheâs never really angry with her own parents for being busy, her mother was a successful doctor, her father was a famous painter and they were separated, so he was never around, and Ami took what she could from those relationships, but she was obviously left feeling lonely by it.  It wasnât the close-knit family that she wanted.
This is also one of the reasons I ship her so strongly with Makoto, because she also really wants a family and I think those shared desires would mesh really well together. Â But, honestly, as long as Amiâs happy with whomever she ends up with, Iâll be happy, too.
Weâre probably supposed to infer that itâs Urawa on the other end of the line, which I donât mind because this isnât necessarily Amiâs destined future, but the dream she has of it right now.  Of course sheâd imagine the person she has feelings for right now!  At the same time, no names are mentioned in the text (at least not in the translation), so weâre free to think whoever we want to of this moment.  (At least as far as I can remember, itâs not 100% nailed down.  And, even if it were, again, this is about Amiâs feelings, not about nailing a timeline down.)
