i think mahito and chihiro should have a little joint adventure together. as a treat (threat)

#I think mahito and chihiro are so interesting to think about as a pair because their stories have similarity but handle things differently #I mean in fairness mahito was dealing with grief #but its fun to think about #chihiro's overall wide-eyed quality... her openness and the kind grace she extends to others. her urge to care and help even when wronged #juxtaposed against mahito's very firm and hardened disposition. his pursuit of righteousness is much more.... physical id say #he is definitely a fighter that's for sure (not to say chihiro isn't a fighter either just in a different way)#chihiro made it through her journey mainly through healing others. the act of spiritual purging and cleansing is highly prevalent #while mahito wielded weapons and faced his world essentially clawing through it. shooting and beating and cracking his own head open #but not to say mahito is without heart or that chihiro is without strength because of course they're are present in both characters #and of course they're dealing with different things. mahito had a complicated past of grief and war while chihiro was rather comfortable #but it's still so interesting to me. how their stories parallel and juxtapose #i fully believe chihiro would be willing to get down and dirty (as long as it didn't contradict her morals)#and that mahito is capable of tapping into his more empathetic side #I find it SO funny how differently they approach their designated “spirit guide” but in fairness the heron was a dick to mahito at the start #while haku was chihiro's pillar and was very kind albeit cryptic #chihiro and haku with their soul bond of mutually saving each other and exchanging acts of kindness and love #vs mahito and the heron straight beefing it 24/7 at each others necks except when they have to work together buddying up begrudgingly #so fun. i think mahito and chihiro would appreciate each other's human-ness. i think they cover each other well #spirited away #sen to chihiro no kamikakushi #chihiro ogino #mahito Maki #the boy and the heron #how do you live #random ramble

completely random and unimportant detail that I really like (1/?)

during chihiro's first night at the bathhouse, she keeps her hair in a ponytail even in bed (most likely too upset or afraid to even bother taking it out)

after her successful first day on the job, she's finally present enough to let her hair down (perhaps an indicator of how she's developing herself in the bathhouse, becoming not necessarily comfortable but at least accustomed)

another thing I love about the stageplay is how expressive and silly kamaji is in mone's version. the heart hands are so extra and I adore it

it's so funny I was so caught off guard when I first saw it 😭

I also just love haku's reaction, definitely another thing added to the stageplay that I think really enhances it. it's not present in the original film, but haku being suprised adds a certain charm to his character. it makes him feel more like the young boy he appears as.

I also just find it funny that now both haku and chihiro have scenes where an elder (kamaji/zeniba) is teasing them lol very grandparent behavior

I don’t know what it is about cartoon blood but sometimes i hate seeing it more than in live action movies. That scene in the boy and the heron when Mahito hits himself in the head with a rock makes me squeamish every time. It’s like I can feel all that blood dripping down the side of my head. Even though the way ghibli draws blood is kinda gooey looking, it’s crazy that they can perfectly translate how it actually feels to bleed that much into animation.
