Safe Haven?

Two childhood friends, two girls growing up in the boonies loving each other more than anyone can love anything, both dreaming of becoming great racers.

But then the racing actually starts, and while Rudolf conquers the world and becomes the greatest Umamusume in Japanese history, Sirius gets left behind to struggle against nobodies.

Sirius grows resentful and jealous, angry at her dreams being stolen from her, and begins to act cruel and bitter to her old friend.

Yet, is it really envy? You don't go from a little country girl to The Emperor and stay the same, the power and responsibility changed Rudolf in many ways. She isn't the same little girl Sirius grew up with, the little girl she was in love with.

So maybe that animosity, those glares and the criticisms Sirius shoots Rudolf's way, it isn't about how good they are at running. Maybe it's Sirius mourning, seeing the dream they both shared take away the girl she loved.

Which is probably why Sirius can't help but take Rudolf's hand every time she offers it, when a little bit of Rudolf shows through the title of The Emperor, Sirius gets a moment to be with that girl again.

But then, of course... Rudolf isn't exactly an innocent bystander in this either. She loves Sirius too, but not in a nostalgic love for the past, more in the love for a feral cat you want to tame.

Rudolf and Sirius have quite a heavy background, both irl and in-game. The horses came from a famous ranches at the time, while Rudo and Siri are from a family with powerful and rich family line in umamusu universe. They were well-known from little, trained to win, and to achieve success, which placed heavy expectations on them both. While life went different for both of them, calling them "boonies", "country girl" and "left behind with nobodies" are simply against their backgrounds and beliefs. Rudolf can't give up one anyone and Sirius can't help but reach out to those who in dire needs, both will not look down on any individuals.
