These days I have moved on from making maquettes into creating full size pieces. This latest one is called "Star Fragment" and it's made of acrylic molding paste sculpted on wood. The bas relief sculpture has been shaded using a special ink wash I have made specifically to bond to the acrylic surface. In the center is a circle filled with epoxy resin, which has a very glass-like appearance. Here is the photo of "Aurora Rising" glowing in the dark. So this looks very promising so far! Soon I should have all the supplies to make these paintings the way I truly intend them. The next ones will glow white in the dark, and there will be blue glow pieces as well with a blue toned ink wash. It's coming along! For those of you less familiar with my work, I am a bit of a Dr. Frankenstein when it comes to art materials. This is an ambitious project of mine to make an entirely luminous sculptural painting. And it looks like I have succeeded the first time around! It's about halfway finished. When it's done and the results are reproducible, this will change the way I make art and allow me to produce better work for a more affordable price. Today marks a milestone for me.
