  The twosome had been friends and foes and everything in between; the altering allocations products of the ever-changing values of their environment. But, despite the frequent, frivolous antics they’d each repeat, Nik knew the banality of an indifference towards Damon would perturb him far greater than near-fatalities of any feud. Nonetheless, the words had been said and the words had been his. Vain hints of a neutrality that would never satisfy either. A twitch splintered across his lips, carving a strange wisp of a smile as he replied. 

"Does it ever grow tiresome, dancing the same dance with me, constantly?” He asked, knowing its resolution. “More to the point, does it ever grow tiresome knowing neither of us will ever really beat the other?”

A silver of an orange flame rose from his right index finger, a brief flicker before it was extinguished. An indifferent gesture, it was a school boy's trick, one coaxed out of him in times of boredom.

       "Tiresome? Never. Let's face it, Klaus, we've both... benefited from this little interaction of ours. The alternative would simply be far too boring. What better way to will our time away then some friendly, dangerous competition? Or we could certainly seek peace as our grandfathers did, discuss our mutual cooperation for the greater good of us and our families, just like the good old days."

           The sun was a warming embrace applied to his sloped shoulders as he strolled towards the lake that bordered on the edge of the property, and substantial as the area was, it befitted the pleasant walk and company with the newest tenant of the Veritas Estate. They had met at the turn of the hour; him with restless disquiet energy as he exited the house, and her as she has she left the guest house to begin the day.
