The following morning saw both of them ensconced in Lidia’s stupidly large bed, early morning sunlight bathing the room in a hazy, dreamlike glow. The prime minister, in all her great wisdom, had used her substantial personal accounts to purchase a beautiful penthouse in Primrose Hill, with large, floor-to-ceiling windows and a startling amount of art on the walls.

The sheets were soft, and Anna’s head rested on Lidia’s delightfully muscled arm. Her bedmate had no scheduled meetings for the day, since her work consultations had come to an early end. Hurray for efficient government officials.

“Do you like movies?”

“I suppose I do,” Lidia replied, combing her fingers through Anna’s hair. “I have not had much time to watch movies; even back then, I did not have that much time after law school and training.”

“Have you seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s?”

“That’s an old movie, yes?”

Anna groaned, throwing her arm over her eyes. “Goodness. Sometimes I forget how young you are. You became prime minister at what, twenty-nine?”

“Yes, but I’m thirty now. Not that young anymore,” Lidia laughed. 

“Yes, darling, but I’m forty-two. I’d already killed someone while you were in primary school.”

That made Lidia sit up, peering at her in interest. “Really?”

Anna snorted, stretching her arms until she felt a satisfying “pop”. “Is it so surprising?”

“I didn’t think assassins started that early,” Lidia replied, yawning. Her accent was a lot more pronounced in the early morning. Anna found it cute. “It’s worrying to think about.”

“You’re worrying about the wrong things, sweetie. You should be more concerned about the fact that you just let an assassin into your bed.”

“I’m not worried about you, kotku.” Lidia grinned. Her canines were a little longer and sharper than average, much like the talons of the eagle Poland called its national animal. “But I am surprised that you’re almost fifty. That was not in your file.”

Anna groaned. “Don’t remind me. I feel geriatric. Basically a grandmother. ”

“Very hot grandmother, though.” Lidia leered at her. She leaned in very slowly. “Very sexy babcia, with stunning curves, winning smile, and a delectable pair of–”

Anna silenced her by pulling her down for a kiss, gentle but firm. It was worrying how she did not mind the morning breath in the slightest. They spent a few more moments like that, tangled up in the sheets, trading kisses and caresses without a care in the world.
