“There she blows! -there she blows!”
Elation Commission ┆Aye-aye... Whales ┆ Durin & Kosma
While Kosma cannot say he's used to this level of civil clearance and the faith of goodwill, he can say it makes more sense for something like this than handling governing requests. He's also pretty sure he saw open bounties and encrypted info about hidden amongst the bulletin board, but they aren't what drew his attention he even hears a street heckler. A man in overalls and a metallic bobs and wears hanging in a crude steampunk manner waved people over to tell them about their expedition: from fancy dressed older couples to youths in shorts and boots covered in mud.
Kosma was sure his height and face would at least do him justice he wasn't a greenhorn youth to turn away, but he always felt at odds with stares at the cartilage upon his head or hands. This place is more tolerable to strangers with strange appendages, and so are the sailors as they barely bat an eye at him when he saddled up a little too close to listen to their plights. He is doing surveillance of this work and, call him paranoid as you see fit, he joins mostly to keep an eye on the treatment of animals.
This place seemed to be a hub for all types of commercial entrepreneurship but something just didn't sit right. Maybe it was the goodwill of volunteering, his experience of behaviors at home on Earth, or just his paranoia at seeming to be just an... alien, to say it simply. That, and boats are better than transforming to swim across nations. He tried that once and while it wasn't unpleasant, he's heard rumors about his own sightings back in Liyue and... yeah, he's good to just walk on two feet.
An excuse? As good as any, he guesses.
While his body is stronger than it seems and he can easily do manual labor, he still finds conversation to be quite a difficult part of the skill set. When he accepted to join at least as a lesser crew mate and found himself on the ship itself—there was another. A boy, no doubt a youth but Kosma has been wrong before with less evidence, with dark horns and a chain-like tail amongst the volunteers. He finds himself staring rather noticeably, with unease internally as he finds he's just staring.
Where was his harmonica when he needed it ? There were kegs, barrels, and boxes to sit upon and play by his solitude. Sailors liked music, right ? Should he say something... ? He did want more information and from someone so out of place, it looks like the lilac youth is his best shot.
"... They're rather welcoming of anyone willing to give a hand. Are we sure the whales are their main fear?" Kosma tries smalltalk, ridges in his tone sharp and curt. "They seem to have... fliers onboard, and many swordsmen. Did they get you with the pitch of potential whales capsizing us?"
While his wings weren't out, it was smart for Kosma to be here if he felt altruistic about all this. If and felt doing the heavy lifting.
