my advisor fell sick, so i had to find an exam i did for him in undergrad so the post-docs could write the exam for this year
studying for econometrics is killing me this week. our first exam is next tuesday! spent a lot of time studying the the grad office this week. took a few breaks and went on a walk. i happened to walk just as the cows came out for dinner! lol
over the weekend, a professor was involved with a porchfest in his city so we all attended. then my partner and i drove to our friends to continue the twilight marathon, we had planned to go to an orchard again but near them this time, but we decided it was too rainy. we watched 2 movies instead! just have 2 left to finish the series
on sunday i went to the mall with my sister to get some things for the bridesmaids proposal boxes!

things are finally starting to really pick up. we have a few more assignments due this week, which finally gives us something to do. and the second year cohort is fully underway with their thesis prep. this week, there were 2 experimental design workshops and another thesis proposal.
we had our first guest seminar for the semester. they scheduled time for the speaker to talk to the grad students before doing their talk so we got a nice chill time to ask the speaker a few questions about their work. i read the paper that they were presenting beforehand so i was prepared!
on friday we had a movie night as a cohort! they all wanted to watch a horror movie, but i'm too much of a scaredy cat for that so i talked them down to beetlejuice. one of the girls in the group mentioned that she loves mcdonald's chicken nuggets as a movie snack so we all got that for dinner!
on saturday the same friends that we went to longwood with came over, and we went to an orchard nearby! we did all of the typical things, mainly the corn maze and hayride. they slept over as well and we watched the first twilight movie! we're planning on watching the whole series together because i mentioned that i have never seen it before lol
also random life update: we finally installed ceiling lights in our appartment! it's crazy how much good lighting can affect your mood lol.
my meeting with my supervisor went really well! i decided to go with a different approach to my thesis than i originally proposed and it was my first time presenting the new approach and outline to them.
on sunday my partner and i drove to the shore for the day. there was an irish festival so we wanted to check it out! it was super windy so we didn't end up staying for long. ironically i didn't get anything irish, but i did try crabcakes for the first time! they were pretty good, 10/10 would recommend
on monday was the first thesis proposal of the semester for the second year cohort. both cohorts attended, and the second years were pretty tense as it was their group's first lol. but i think the proposer did a great job! i think it was super valuable for me too, it really helped me kinda ground my thoughts for my own thesis. that'll be me in a year!
on tuesday, my cohort had our first group study sesh! our first assignment in our classes was due so we all got together at the library to work on it. we all ended up getting it done - a few days before the deadline!
wednesday i joined my partner on a trip he had to go on for his work. it was about 3 hours there and back. but i read a few papers in the car that are assigned for next week!
thursday was another 8-8, the worst day of the week lol (classes from 8AM to 8PM). but at least we all go through it together. we have a bigger break in the afternoon, and we all hang out in the grad office. my advisor was interested in using VR for our experiment, so i emailed a few contacts to see how doable that is! ended the day with a walk back to my car the long way since i think it's the prettiest. everyone else parks closer, but i think it's a nice time for me to decompress after 12 hours with everyone
on friday my partner and i finalized the colours for our wedding! we're going to do multi-coloured bridesmaids in the jewel toned palette. then we went shopping around for some matching ribbon for each of the colours (just 5 i never got a pic of the final set lol). i really want to do the bridesmaid proposal boxes and think it would be cute to have ribbons with each of their colours.
on saturday we went to the renn faire with 2 of said bridesmaids! it was PACKED and even the car line to get in was backed up for like 2 miles. but it was still super fun! since there's so much to do in the faire it didn't feel too packed once we were actually doing activities. it was oktoberfest themed and my partner joined in on the bar olymics (but he lost lol), we watched a few of the performances that were also themed. didn't get too boozy this time lol.
(technically) sunday (ie really late after renn faire) we dropped off one of our friends who live near us then went home to quickly change out of our renn faire fits into comfy clothes because we booked it to two states over AGAIN for the night.
we arrived at almost 3AM to our friend's house in the other state.
it was the finale for Big Brother (lol) my partner and i are obsessed with it and we got these friends obsessed too, so we drove over to watch the finale all together. we actually saved like 2 weeks' worth of episodes, so i don't have any pics since we were just binge watching all day. but it was super fun to do this all together, it made it way more enjoyable than just watching it alone. we were all yelling at the screen lolllll. soon after the finale ended, we drove home again in time for another week of classes šš

I havenāt been too present on here lately and I canāt believe exam season is already slowly creeping in!
I am currently in the middle of my very first graded assessment of the semester, which is a German take-home exam. I am writing a Kommentar on current events (we got a pretty decent essay title) which should be around 1,000 words long by the time I am done with it. I am feeling relatively good about the work Iāve done so far, but I donāt want to get my hopes up too soon!
We have been given 24 hours to complete this, we allowed a dictionary (only in paper form) and the assignment is worth 20% of my overall grade in this module.
Instead of going to Uni at 8am every day, I went at 9am. This means I've only done 34 total hours instead of 40. Moments of rest are extremely important to me, because they help me avoid burnout! Resting is not weakness, but wisdom!!
On Saturday I had a nice romantic sushi dinner with my boyfriend!
On Sunday, I played Laser Tag with my friends to celebrate my birthday and it was SO FUN!!!! š«š„ā We all loved it! Then we went to grab a sweet treat in a nice coffee shop. My cinnamon bun was DE-LI-CIOUS.
This week was a great week. I'm ready to give 100% in the upcoming one šŖ
