Peru - History and Archaeology in Lima
Peru is world famous for its archaeological sites and the sheer number of places where travelers can learn more about the ancient cultures that are used to live here. However, many people do not realize that it is not necessary to travel to Cusco and Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley to quench their thirst for all things archaeological silent. There are a lot of ancient history can be found right in the capital, Lima. In the district of Miraflores you will find pre-Hispanic culture in a residential area at the Huaca Pucllana (also known as Huaca Juliana). Huaca (pronounced wa-ka) is the term for pyramid shaped adobe buildings left behind the beginning of pre-Hispanic cultures. The Huaca Pucllana was a ceremonial complex of the Lima culture, a people who lived in the area around 500 AD. Today the place is a museum, guided tours for about $ 2,50 is offering for adults. In nearby San Isidro, we find the Huaca Huallamarca. It is likely that the Huaca was used as a place of worship, and as a place to bury the dead. Archaeologists believe that Huallamarca was eventually abandoned around the fourth century AD, and that the newer Huaca Pucllana then became the center for ceremonies and religious education. Huaca Huallamarca has also opened an on-site museum, Tuesday to Sunday from 9.00 am to 17.00 clock. About 30 miles south of the city proper, in the Lurin Valley, where we find the archaeological site of Pachacamac, one of the most important of the pre-Hispanic ceremonial centers. Built around the third century AD, remained in the sanctuary used by the rule of the Incas. Pachacamac was a deity in the Andean cultures, who said the power to control earthquakes have been honored - a strong attribute in this country on the Pacific "Ring of Fire '. The on-site museum offers the chance to see various artifacts that are from the area to see been recovered, and tours of the various zones on the site, like the Temple of the Sun. The website is also dedicated to preserving local flora and fauna and offers visitors the opportunity to see the famous Peruvian hairless dog, Peruvian camelids such as alpaca and a cactus garden. The site is open to visitors 7 days a week from 9.00 to 16.00 clock and until 5pm on Friday until Sunday. If you just visit Peru and will not be a chance some of the famous Inca sites and castles to visit, you do not feel like you're missing. These sites in Lima is perhaps not so well known, but they are still impressive and fascinating, and very worth an afternoon visit.Sources: Pachacamac - Museo de Sitio, Perucultural.org
