When I was little, so many of the 'cool' girl characters on tv/cartoons were super punk/tomboyish. And yeah, that's great! Represent the skater girls who love rock and all that! But the problem was those characters were usually also at odds with the 'girly-girls' - (who were either airheads/sorta stupid, or the prissy prada narcissistic types) who were going to be ~famous models~ and drowned themselves in fashion magazines and followed trends, and wore pink, and makeup, and nailpolish, and only listened to pop songs. They were scoffed at, and portrayed like their views and opinions were ALWAYS shallow, and cliché. (And ngl, for me, that DID sink in as something to Avoid At All Costs)
What's great about Marinette is that she's a bit in between. She's more average, like you said, more normalized! She loves pink, and fashion, and enjoys memes and trends, but wears the bare minimum of makeup, she listens to rock and pop (so long as it sounds good), and she's shown to appreciate both sides of those stereotypes.
What I ESPECIALLY LOVE is that Miraculous ALSO portrays these other girls, though!! We have Alix, we have Chloé, we have Rose, and we have Juleka!! All of these girls are on this spectrum, and ((for the most part,)) they respect each other's opinions!
Alix, the Skater Girl is also an artist! (a street artist! And the fact that it was shown as art?? Amazing!), and as far as Creator Cannon says: she's Aro! She's not pining after anyone! She's said to be an activist for gender equality! She doesn't scoff at Marinette, and encourages her fashion aspirations. She calls Chloé out, but mostly for being a bully, and a drama queen. (Though the selfie collage scenario might've been handled better, I do feel like there were reasons for her to act that way)
Juleka, the Goth Girl wants to be a model (and has a love for fashion/alternative aesthetics-- [steampunk derby hat!]) she plays bass guitar in a garage band, but she's also an introvert, with severe anxiety, that is also afraid of being invisible.
Rose is the airhead 'Girly-Girl' type, NAMED after the color pink, and she fully embraces that! Because why not? Rainbows, Unicorns, Princesses-- Totally her jam. But she's ALSO the lead singer in a metal band! She's an activist(? Maybe? I don't remember) And seriously looks up to people who are doing good things, and clearly thinks that everyone is capable of being good! (Even Chloé!) And she supports Juleka through everything she wants to do, too!!
Chloé is that girl who's a bit too obsessed with her appearance, is a total snob, loves fashion, and unironically listens to the earworm popstars that are the latest craze. But! She'll also jam to rock songs, and lowkey seems to respect Alix? She's definitely awful to the other three I've mentioned, though, not disregarding that.
But my point is! Yes! Miraculous Ladybug has such a great representation of girls! Their personalities are so diverse, but they all have common interests, and will support each other, both in their shaired, and unique interests!
And they do the same thing for the boys!! (boys who love sports, and videogames/coding, or are musicians, or who are in more feminine coded professions/a bit of all of the above, but never teased over it!!) and it made me SO happy when I first watched it, and even now.
