If I ever have children, I’m going to bring them up believing in faeries and goblins and mermaids.

They hang out in Scottish and British castles, but you can banish them by reciting bible verses or flashing a cross          Angelo:     they kill?          Me:     yep     they kill and eat their victims     both human and fae.          Angelo:     mmm cannibalis     now in contrast (and because i have a yugioh deck of them), the light fae?          Me:     depends on what you believe is light     but you’d probably find the Sidhe one of the closest to “light”     or brownies     brownies are faeries that help take care of your house. offend them though and you’ll regret it     Sidhe  are often written in Celtic myths and had married and had children in the Scottish royal family line          Angelo:     does a lot of faerie-origin? take place in Scotland?          Me:     its considered one of the most magical or faerie prone countries in the world     Each country in the world though has their own myths.     In Germany it was believed Satan had a special strap or belt that if a human wore, would turn them into a wolf. And the only way to turn back is to hear their name or take it off     That’s their “werewolf” myth, and that if you had the belt, you couldn’t speak anything of the lord (his name, words, reading from the bible) which is how one Priest got “caught” and “tried”     Banshees and Bogies come from Germany too. Grimms’ stories are good faery reads.     For Scotland faeries are divided into the Seelie and Unseelie courts (blessed vs. unblessed)     For the Welsh its connected to Arthurian legends (despite Camelot being believed to be actually Scotland)    where they believed King Authur was actually a faerie king when he married Guenivere   Germany is also famous for its Enchanted Forests. One such place is the Black Forest, where the trees are said to move about at night. German Faeries are also said to keep dragons as pets.     Scandinavia calls their faeries elves and divide them into “light” and “dark” faeries     Greece has the nypmths, fauns, satyrs, and Dryads     Italy has “fada” for faerie but their myths are influenced almost completely by Greece and Rome.     Unfortunately, very little information on the Faeries of the Iberian Peninsula survived the area’s conversion to Christianity. The only story to be passed down is called “Tonino the Hunchback and the Faeries”. This folk tale lets us know that the Iberian Faeries were partial to olive trees.     The Faerie traditions of the Polynesian people has not faded with time. The Menehuna are some of the most popular Faeries of the Polynesians. The Menehuna are known to aid the lost and grant wishes. However, very little is known of Polynesian Faeries due to a lack of trust between the Polynesian people and the Europeans.     In Egypt faeries were “hathor” and immune to metal (which no other cutlure really has for theirs) are were connected to the goddess Hathor they live underground     India allows its adherents to chose where in Nature they wish to worship, knowing full well that the nearby Faeries will carry the worshipers requests to the Gods. On the Hindu High Holy Days, a small, quick, winged Faerie is sometimes seen, and children are encouraged to seek it out and give offerings of food.     African Faerie lore is that it is rich with Elves and Seasonal Faeries, as well as less commonly known Nature Spirits. African Faeries are also known to take animal forms, much like the spirits of the Americas.     In Russia, the word for Faerie is “Domovoi”, and is always part of a Faerie’s full name. The word “Domovoi Djedoe” translates to “Earth Faerie”, is the Russian name for a Gnome. Russian lore is full of Seasonal Faeries, especially the spirits of Winter, as well as Trickster Faeries.     Australia does not believe that the Faeries are either good or bad, but instead are neutral spirits. The Faeries of Australia neither hate nor care for humans, but are willing to help someone seeking their aid.     Central and South America is difficult to figure out because almost nothing survived colonization and what still remains is so deeply ingrained with Christianity its impossible to find the original tale     BAM.
