Actually, I want to think about fragmem’s very occasional use of religious imagery or allusion again.

I believe that the core theme of it is evidently humanity through the lens of interpersonal relationships, of course, and the Fragaria are by all means people in the eyes of the narrative. People whose arcs, for the most part, have to do with acknowledging the fact that they are multifaceted by fault of being, well, people. There is no god nor theme of divinity at play here, both in the world itself, and in the narrative (at least, on my mind).

But there are also, by fault of there being people, people who are committed and loving and there for one another (that was for certain not me scoring an excuse to mention what I read as the core theme of each bouquet..), there are those with goals larger than them and no presence on that scale for them to project those ideals onto. There are people who forgo their or others’ humanity in that place. There is Cielomort, who takes up the mantle for the world out of sheer love and devotion to the cause that it is. There is Louter, who recites prayers directed at the concept of time out of her sheer fear of change and attachment to stasis. There is obviously nothing that embodies divinity in fragmem (for now. obviously), but there are people who latch onto concepts that liken themselves to it. Gosh,,

#i wonder if this also has. some tangential relationship to becoming a seed or something #it is evident that becoming a seed is the result of loosing the concept that has your footing #like. in hallritt’s case it is commitment. trust is his code of chivalry but his fundamentals are rooted in commitment #he was (supposedly) raised with the ideal of someday being what ‘saves the world’ in mind #he leaves commited. sure he trusts and learns to work with new people but he’ll always be writing letters to kitty and always gear himself #towards ‘saving the world’. like he was set out to do!#it’s why her loss is implicated to lead to him becoming a seeds somehow someway from the looks of it #it really makes me wonder about how this could play into that theory #like. divinity is already something arbitrary in the eyes of the narrative because it is fundamentally a story driven by humanity #is grappling with their humanity what leads them down the seeds route. realising they nor the role they’ve project their ideals onto can #truly reach them?#that cielomort can’t just hoist the world up and onto his shoulders and louter can’t just clasp her hands and have time stop #is that what the narrative believes’ll. for lack of a better description seedsify them?#is becoming a seed giving up on the prospect of remaining human?#giving up on the prospect of remaining as a person in a world like this when that status actively works against your ideals?#of continuing to be when their status as a multifaceted person who loves and commits and befriends works against their ideals?#goodness #this is far from relevant to anything alright - i was just very much overthinking the twin stars’ castle having a prayer room #for no apparent reason #fragmem #rambles

I am the biggest fan of Tuxam’s sheer inability to quip back at things that do no harm and kill no joy even prior to their arc in episode 2. Even if they don’t have that ideal at the forefront, they have always wanted to maintain standards for the sake of making the people around them happy (they really only got overzealous with the means to an end that was rulings and thus lost sight of that).

Hence, well, arguing against a standard that diverges from what they’ve chosen to set but doesn’t hurt anybody and, in fact, makes the other person happy? Arguing against fun? That is like, the inverse of their principles. They can try to, but they genuinely cannot do that.

So isn’t this scene just. A thing that happened.

Cielomort has expressed genuine distress at even considering what life would be like if he was alone. To love what’s out of sight, to leave what you love in the hands of the world, not those in it, the world itself, the events to transpire without you and them to catch one another, is something he suffers immense grief at even the prospect of.

So, of course, when Cielomort realises that Louter is alone, remembers that Louter fears being alone for reasons they can just about see themself in, their first instinct is to reassure him. Of course the first thing they’re going to say in this situation is “it’s going to be okay”. Nobody is in the room with you, but it’ll be okay. You are alone, nobody is with you and you are with nobody, but it is okay, and it will be okay. For if Cielomort was alone, that likely would be what they’d want to hear most (and in the 54th Knight Link, they do, in fact, think about things to do in preparation for seeing Cinnamoroll again, things to do in preparation for the eventual realisation of things having been okay all along).

I adore how ambiguous Cielomort’s plans are yet how contrastingly transparent he gets about his motivations off-the-bat. It is very evident, and said verbatim, that Cielomort is motivated by love, it is his code of chivalry and his central talking point in episode 3. Love is the motivator behind his plans, but his plans remain lost on the rest of the cast, and thus, the majority of them do not trust him in its regard.

But, to Cielomort, ‘friendship’ is understanding. He believes they do understand or are capable of understanding him and, in turn, ‘getting along’. Love is a universal concept, it is what fragmem is built on by proxy of being a story about interpersonal relationships. If love is something that can be understood through-and-through, Cielomort and his aims can be, as someone working with it as his central and sole incentive. It should not be hard to ‘get along’ under his plans, with his motives in mind. It should not be difficult to understand Cielomort, and especially for those of the world he regards as ‘friends’, yet it’s still portrayed to be.

“Cielomort is obviously a christ allegory!” Don’t think so, but he sure does frame himself as one. Fragaria memories is a story about humanity through the lens of interpersonal relationships, though. Cielomort is a person. The narrative treats him like one, it is only him who happens to have an idea of friendship so skewed and a life so profoundly lonely he chooses to take up a mantle so much bigger than himself yet on-par with the world he feels indebted to. (This is also why I don’t think they’re killing him off and especially not through his own plan, whatever it is, I rest my case!)

My favourite thing about Louterstella’s conversation with Willmesh in episode 2 will always be how vague she is about what she wants to protect.

Louter emphasises that she wants to protect against change to maintain stasis. Change is something with the general capability to hurt (primarily, it hurts the altruistic), and Louterstella thus wants to shun it. That is why she chooses stasis, because of its very nature as a period lacking change. That is why she presumably dreads the future and may as well lean into the past, that is why she hides her kingdom, to hold things susceptible to harm by change’s hand. By all means, Louter is not protecting any particular moment of stasis more than she is protecting against change.

Louter is quite literally hiding his stasis from Willmesh here! He never directly mentions the stasis he wants to protect and gears the conversation towards what he protects it against, being change, and the feelings which motivate him to come to stasis’ defence, love! He phrases his motivations as his virtues and the people he wishes to protect most as generally as he can (through the lens of the kingdom) as a whole. They really are similar in how they hide what they want to protect,, gosh.
